HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1971-11-04, Page 12PAGE 12 ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 1971 Scns s Clinic in Zurich St. Boniface C.W.L. host meeting of Strut ford Deanery Women St. Boniface Council of the Catholic Women's League were hosts for the Stratford Deanery Meeting of the Catholic Wom- en's League last Wednesday in the Zurich Community Centre. Mrs. Louis Farwell, president of the St. Boniface Council, was chairman for the event. Nineteen councils from the Deanery attended with regist- ration of 149. The object of these meetings in each Deanery of the Diocese is to learn how "we can best serve God and country." Members of the Diocescan Executive gave reports and gave many good suggestion on how to best serve our commun- ity and fellowman. Convenor on Cultural Life, Mrs. Leo Faubert, gave an interesting talk expressing that Culture is Zurich Institute hear teacher The Zurich Women's Institute held their meeting in the Hay Tow nsh ip Hall on November 1, with 22 members and seven visitors present. The theme of the meeting was "Citizenship and Education." Mrs. Newell Geiger was chairlady for the program, and read an article on the Value of Pleasantness. Mrs. Plantinga spoke on the Meaning of Being a Canadian Citizen and also showed her own certificate of Canadian Citizenship. Mrs. Doreen Oesch from the Zurich Public School told the group something of the aims and changes in education and the value of remedial work. Many interesting samples of painting with Cameo products were displayed by Mrs. Stephen Gingerich. Piano instrumentals by Mrs. Irvin Martin were en- joyed. Donations were approved to the C,N.I,B.; Muscular Dystro- phy; Children's Aid Society and War Memoria Children's Hospital. A short course on "The Knack of Sewing with Knits, " sponsor- ed by the Department of Food and Agriculture, will be given the latter part of November. All ladies interested are wel- come to attend this course. 0 One small boy to another as they got their first look at an escalator: "I wonder what they do when the basement is full of steps?" the most important factor about the human being. The Cultural Life Committee of the C , W . L, is to help our fellow man obtain this goal and encourage people to live a more Christian happy and cultural life. Convenor of Christian Family Life, Mrs. Palmer, said to have a happier family life there are positive steps to stabilize the Christian Family. Some of the steps suggested, "Foster shared decision-making in the home; - get everyone involved so each feels a responsibility; -a family must have moral values and live them. A Christian home must become a centre of hosp- itality towards friends and neighbours. "Where there is communicat- ion there is knowledge, and where there is profound know- ledge, then love can grow, " she added. Mrs. Lawrence Howard, Dioc- escan president, showed slides on the evil of abortion. They were enough to wake up the most indifferent.
