Eldon Howald, who has been visiting friends in and around Zurich left on Friday for Jacksonville, Florida, where he plans on spending sev- eral months, Mr. Herb Mousseau, garage operator in Zurich, has added to his equipment in acetylene welding machine, which has long been a necessity. Up until now anyone wanting weld- ing done had to take it away to a larger centre. J. Zuefle, of Hensall, has recently greatly improved his greenhouse, and has installed a boiler and furnace for heating, William Shepherd and Nathan Warner have opened up a but- cher shop in Hensall in Alex Murdock's block, next to Mr. Warner's residence. William Dougall returned home from the west last week, where he had been helping the farmers in the special harvest excursion. Mr. John Decker, Jr., of the Goshen Line south of Zurich, a well-known horse man, has disposed of his two-year old filly "Miss Peter Bingen, " to Eurice Pearce of Forest, for the sum of $705. 40 Years Ago A happy matrimonial event was celebrated in St. Peter's R. C , Church, Drysdale, on Tuesday morning, November 3,, when Rev. Father L. Marchand united in Holy Wedlock Laura Bedard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Bedard to Mr. Lucien Corriveau, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Corriveau, both of the contracting parties being from the Blue Water Highway. The many friends regret to learn of the illness of Mrs. H. Lipphardt, who is with her daughter, Mrs. George Fee at Hensall, Mrs. Lipphardt suffered minor injuries she sustained from a fall recently, and while she was convalescing from these injuries she was taken i11 with an attack of pneumonia. Weed inspector Mr. Louis Schumacher of Dashwood was in town on Monday, and finish- ed up the business part of his season's work. Twenty-five additional old age pensioners were added to the Huron County list at a meet- ing of the board held recently. The number of those now re- ceiving pensions is constantly growing and now nears the seven hundred mark. 25 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs, Arthur Edigh- offer and son, Grant, have left for Brantford, where they plan on spending the winter months, They will return to their home in Zurich in the spring. The Ladies Aid of Carmel Church, Hensall, held a rum- mage sale on Saturday in the Town Hall, and it was termed a decided success. The scholars and teachers of the Blake School held a Hall- owe'en party in the school on Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs, Wesley McBride bridal couple, have returned from their honeymoon to Niag- ara Falls and other points in northern Ontario, and getting nicely settled on their farm on the Goshen Line, north. Mrs. C. Eilbert, a farmer resident of Zurich, passed away at the Roger's Hospital, London, on Monday. The funeral was held on Wednesday, at the horse of her sister, Mr. and Mrs, John Mitchell, of Hensall. I-lallowe'en passed very quietly in this district, as hardly a thing was out of place in the area the following morn- ing. 15 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. Milton Deitz have moved their household effects to the farm home of Ivlr. Aaron Gingerich's vacant house on the Bronson line, until their new home in Zurich is completed to occupy. Mrs, E, E. Wuerth has return- ed home from the Sarnia Genera: Hospital and is progressing favourably. Dr. D.J. McKelvic, who has practised veteranarian in Hensall for the past five years is leaving on November 18, for Essex where he will go into partnership with Dr. G,S, Brown, V, S. Mrs, Martin Elliott, 74 Stanley Township, who died Friday last in Scott Memorial Hospital, Seaforth, was the former Lillian Morrison, of McKillop Township. Mrs. William Forrester attend- ed the Women's Institute Conv- ention at London, October 15 and 16, as the Zurich delegate. This was held in the Masonic Temple, London. 10 Years Ago Announcement was made in Toronto on Wednesday after- noon by the new premier of Ontario, Hon. John P. Robarts, that Charles 5, MacNaughton, member for Huron, has been appointed as a member of the provincial cabinet, as Minister without portfolio. Morris Durand, of the 14th concession Hay Township, who has been in the hospital for the past few weeks, has found out what good neigh- bours mean when you need them. On Monday afternoon, seven of his neighbours arrived at his farm with their tractors, and before they left about 25 acres of his land had been ploughed. The Hensall-Zurich area is in for some good fast hockey this coming season, with the announcement last week that a group of interested supporters are sponsoring a junior hockey team. Manager of the new entry is George Beer, a prom- inent sports figure in Hensel]. for many years, and he is being assisted by Bob McKinley, of Zurich, an ardent hockey work- er. Bill Shaddick and Howard Rannie were in Toronto last Friday and while there had the pleasure of seeing Jack Chip - chase playing hockey with the Toronto Marlboros.
