At the same meeting, coun- cil agreed to ask permission from the Road Department of Huron County and from the Department of Transportation and Communications, to tear up sections of highway in the village for the proposed water- works project. The council have been working on a revised plan for the water system, which would see the project completed for the amount of $215, 000., as approved by the Ontario Municipal Board at the public hearing earlier this year. While making a grant of $10 to the St. John's Ambulance Corps for this year, the council agreed to ask this organization to conduct a training session in the v;llage, in the very near future. It was felt there would be a sufficient number of per- sons interested to conduct such a course. In other business at the leng- thy session Thursday evening, Price i cre due to ses various causes (by Keith Roulston) During the question period at the Huron Federation of Agriculture meeting Thursday the candidates were asked to comment on the growing gap between the amount of money a farmer gets for a product and the amount the consumer must pay. Mr. MacNaughton said there wasn't much wonder the prices went up with the huge demands made by labour unions. Mr. Carroll replied that unions often made such high demands because of the great increases in prices. The New Democrats had consumer pol- icies to hold control prices and, to a certain extent, wages as well. A price review board would be set up to require com- panies to justify increases. Mr. Gaunt said there is no question that labour is partly to blame for big increases but companies were also at fault for over -compensating on these increases. "I feel we've come to the point, " he said "when we're going to have to accept wage, price and profit freeze as they have done in the United States.", council agreed to call tenders for the supply of fuel oil for all municipally owned buildings for the corning season, All tend ers must be in the hands of the • clerk by October 29.
