Plowing match success
A crowd of spectators gather-
ed in the rain about six miles
northwest of Goderich, Saturday
on the Jamieson Ribey farm at
R, R. 6, Goderich for the 44th
annual Huron Plowmen's Assoc-
iation plowing match.
Secretary -treasurer of the
association, Russell Bolton,
R. R, 1, Seaforth, said the site
was ideal for the field of about
60 entrants.
Mrs, Gordon Pryce, 23, R.R.
4, Walton won the title queen
of the furrows over five other
contestants. Runner-up was
Miss Faye Merrill, 22, R.R.2,

Gordon, of R, R, 1, Seaforth
placed first.
John Becker, of Dashwood
won the Esso championship aware
a cash prize. The Eaton's of
Canada trophy went to John
Leeming of R, R,4, Walton for
the best plowed land by a jun-
ior competitor using a mounted
plow.
Graeme Craig, of R. R.1,
Walton won the open class for
tractor's pulling mounted,
semi -mounted or trail plows.
He was also awarded the Inter-
national Harvester of Canada
Ltd. cash award for the best
plowed land in the utility class
using a mounted plow; his
finish was named best in this
class,
Gunner Pind of Exeter receiv-
ed the cash prize offered by
Kongskilde Ltd., of Exeter in
the class for tractors pulling
four or more plows in three
circuits of the field, Mr. Pind
also received the Gordon Me -
Gavin special award for contour
plowing.
T. P. O'Malley of Teeswater
placed first in the open class
for all comers with tractors
pulling as many plows as wished.
His finish was named best in
this class. At the end of all
events. Mr. O'Malley received
a cash award for producing
the best finish of the day.
William Armstrong, 14, of
R. R. 4, Wingham produced the
best crown and finish in a class
for boys and girls 15 and under.
1 -le was also awarded the Bank
of Montreal award, a wrist
watch.
In the special class for senior
high school pupils 19 and under,
John Leeming and Barry Gordon
won for Seaforth District High
School, Entrants from Goderich
District Collegiate placed sec-
ond and from South Huron Dist-
rict High School at Exeter plac-
ed third.
Dan Regier and Peter McCann
won first prize for South Huron
in the special class for junior
high school pupils 16 and under.
A visitor to the area, Tim
Law of Belfast, Ireland won in
the mounted plows only class
for tractors drawing 12 inch
furrows or more.

A commuter viewed the
snowstorm and told his wife he
thought conditions were so bad
he'd stay home from work. The
couple's seven children got up for
breakfast and were preparing for
school, when the radio announcer
said that school was canceled for
the day.
Suddenly the father decided to
risk the trip to work.
Remember when a capsule
traveled in a man.

1 - For Concession of Hensall Arena booth. Percentage of
profits on seasonal rates. Highest or lowest tender not
necessarily accepted.
2 - For part-time man, approximately 15 hours per week,
as designated by the Arena Manager.
