ALVIN WALPER
Alvin Walper, well known
auctioneer, 60, passed away
at Victoria Hospital, London,
Wednesday, September 29. He
had been i11 for sometime and
undergone operations, although
he still held auctions and had
disposed of his farm in August
in hoped that he could devote
all his time to auctioneering.
Surviving besides his wife
Jean (Willert) are three brothers,
Norman, Exeter; Melton, Inger-
soll; and Glenn, Preston.
The funeral was in charge of
the T. Harry Hoffman funeral
home and the service was held
in Zion Lutheran Church, Sat-
urday, October 2, with Rev.
Earl Steinman officiating. Int-
erment was made in Dashwood
Lutheran cemetery.

tournament at Stratford, Sun-
day afternoon and were success-
ful in obtaining the trophy for
the Mitchell Zone.

RUSS JACKSON
The right hand of former CFL all-star Russ Jackson has thrown
some of finest football passes ever completed on a football
field, and although Russ has retired from the field he's still very
much involved with sport—as a broadcaster with the CBC. Russ
can be heard calling the plays as the analyst and color com-
mentator on the CBC's Eastern Conference CFL games and also
acts as co -host with Bob Moir on the sports talk show Replay,
seen Saturday at 6:30 p.m. on most CBC -TV stations.

left on Tuesday of this week
for the east coast. Mrs. Thiel
will also visit with her daught-
er and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs
Don Kyle, who were recently
moved east.
Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Schilbe
spent a few days over the past
weekend visiting with Mr. and
Mrs. Don Gascho and family,
in Montreal.
Gordon Hess returned home
on Saturday after spending a
couple of weeks attending a
convention at Thunder Bay,
also doing some fishing in the
north country.

WINNER OF CONKLIN'S
3 -BEDROOM COTTAGE
Mr. Brant Simkins of 589 14th St., West in Owen Sound
was recently declared the winner of the 3 -bedroom cottage
offered to Conklin customers. Mr. Simkins, who is with the
Owen Sound Fire Department, received the keys to the
cottage from David Conklin, President of Conklin Lumber.
A new promotion is now underway at all 18 Conklin
branches across Southwestern Ontario. The Grand Prize is a
free all -expense paid trip for 2 to Jamaica. There are 5
