At the UFO convention held in Hensall on Wednesday, Mr. Black was picked as the candid- ate to represent the party at the federal election coming off on December 7. Bread has dropped from 12 cents a loaf to 10 cents a loaf in Exeter, and some of the other villages around the area. Ray McArtur, of Hensall, is carrying his arm in a sling, the result of a very painful accid- ent. On Thursday last, while he was working under a car, the motor was started and his arm was caught in the machine and badly torn. A. Hicks, MPP for South Huron, fell off a load of corn and dislocated two of his fingers On Monday last, Archie Rowcliffe, on the London Road, drew in the first sugar beets for the area, and they were a good sample, nice and clean. 40 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. Garnet Jacobe, Mrs. L. Pfile and Miss Pearl Pfile paid their last respects to the remains of the late Mrs. Durst, at Auburn on Tuesday morning. A team of ten local horseshoe tossers motored to the Muncey Indian reserve on Wednesday, where that reserve had it's annual fall fair, and the rules call for teams of ten of each district represented, and we feel our boys will make a good showing of themselves. Susannah Dietz, beloved wife of Edward A. Axt, was born June 15, 1858 on the Bronson Line, Hay Township, and died at her home in Zurich on Sept- ember 29, 1931, aged '73 years, 3 months and 14 flays. After prying off the door of the safe with a crowbar, thieves escaped with $15 in cash from the Mustard Coal Company, in Brucefield. Charles Pearce, the 'King of the Hoboes' died in Brace - bridge Hospital, after two weeki illness. He claimed that he had been raised in the vicinity of Seaforth. Mr. Alfred Mellett, the prop- rietor of the Zurich Creamery, has purchased a hardware bus- iness in the city of Woodstock, and intends moving there in the very near future. 15 Years Ago Mrs. Leroy O'Brien is a pat- ient at the Clinton Hospital and is progressing very favour- ably. Mary Margaret Willard and Carl Edmund Willert were unit- ed in marriage in a ceremony performed by the Rev. A, Rap- son on Saturday, September 22 in Main St. United Church, Exeter. Hostettler and family, of London, and Mrs. Walter Hostettler, of New Ham- burg were recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs, John Brown. 10 Years Ago Starting Sunday, October 8, the members of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Zurich will begin a week long celebration on the occasion of the 100th Centennial of their church. Although the present church structure was not built until 1877, the original congregation was formed in 1861, with a Rev. L. Muenzinger, the first min- ister. Mr. and Mrs, Elzar Mous- seau and Mr. and Mrs. Ross Faber, attended the 25th wed- ding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Turnbull, of Green- way, on September 26. Gregory Gordon Lavery, five week old son of Mr, and Mrs. Gordon Lavery, who has been a patient at St. Joseph's Hosp- ital, since his birth, was brought home on Saturday and is doing nicely. 1\,1rs. Charles Thiel and Mrs. Alice Thiel left by plane from London Airport on Wednesday morning for Calgary, Alberta, where the former will visit with her brother, Truman Fisher. who was seriously injured in an accident, and the latter will visit with her daughter and son- in-law, Mr. and Nirs. The first class of certified visiting homemakers graduated early in September, making qualified staff available for the pilot program. Dr. Frank Mills, Huron's act- ing medical officer of health, reported he had met with rep- resentatives of the Ontario department of health, the homecare program and budget departments to review all det- ails of the home care program. 1 -le said $25, 000 has been allotted for the initial six month's operation, Dr. Mills did stress however that the complete financing for the home care program will be provided by the provincial government. To qualify for home care service, a patient must be under medical supervision of an at- tending physician.
