Twenty nine residents were honored by the Tiger Dunlop Women's Institute on Wednesday afternoon at the September birthday party. One hundred and fifty residents and some guests gathered in the auditorium for the party and enjoyed the prog- ram which was convened by Mrs. Reauburn. The program consisted of a reading by Mrs. Clarence Hunter and several accordian numbers by Hilly Klouze. Following the program gifts were presented to those celebrating birthdays and lunch was served by the ladies. Leo Moerbeck of Huronview thanked the group on behalf of the residents. Sharon Carter and Betty Lockhart, volunteers from the Beta Sigma sorority, assisted with the wheelchairs. Jack McLaren, of Benmiller accompanied on the piano by Ed Stiles, of Gloderich provided a very enjoyable hour of entert- ainment at the Thursday Family Night program. Mr. McLaren, one of the original members of the famous shoal "The Dumbells" sang several of the songs that were sung by the group which had its beginning following the first world war. Fle also showed pictures that had been made from old snaps of the members as well as slides on the history of Benmiller. Mrs. Mary Johnston expressed the appreciation of the residents. It is encouraging to have visitors attend the program with a Huron - view relatifve or friend. 0 Tommy: There's a strange man in front of our house! Mother: Really? What's so strange about him? Our bingo games will be changed from Thursday to Friday evenings, leaving the middle of the week free for any outside groups or organizations who would care to provide entertainment or visit with the residents, who find the evenings particularly long and lonesome. We"also invite you to come and enjoy the movies and also to join in playing bingo. Wednesday afternoons are to be set aside for recreation for the residents under the direction of our Craft Supervisor, Mrs. Norma Siebert. We will be trying to organize crockinole and card games as well as shuffleboard and any other games that might be of interest to them. We would appreciate having visitors join us to part- icipate in this recreation, since the residents find it much more interesting when visitors arrive to join in. We are extending a special invitation to the men of the community to drop in for a game of cards any afternoon or evening. We were pleased to have some of the ladies from the village drop in to help quilt last Tues- day afternoon and invite them back whenever they find it poss- ible. We are grateful to all in the community who have been bringing delicious fruits and vegetables as well as beautiful bouquets, and also wish to thank Mrs. Muriel Ingrid for the wonderful assortment of sample materials for use in the craft room, as well as the Blue Water Rest Horne Ladies' Aux- iliary for the donation of a crib quilt for resale.
