Honored on 50th anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Oesch,
Hensall, celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary on Saturday
September 18.
Samuel Oesch and the former
Mary Bedour, of Zurich, were
married in London by Rev.
Morris at the United Church
Manse, September 16, 1921.
They farmed in Stanley Town-
ship until retiring in Hensall in
195 8.
Their only son, Russell, re-
sides on the homestead farm.
They also have three daughters,
Kathleen, Mrs. Bob Bell, Clint-
on; Anne, Mrs. Earl Flaxbard,
Zurich; Mae, Mrs. Ray McNall,
Fergus; twenty-four grandchild-
ren and four great grandchildren,
.�► The couple were honored at
a dinner given by the family
at the Dashwood Community
Centre followed with a social
evening with music by the
Country Ramblers. Friends and
relatives attended from Detroit,
Mt. Clements, U.S.A., Sarnia,
and the surrounding area.
They received many beautiful
gifts and cards and congratulat-
ions from Prime Minister P. E.
Trudeau, Hon. C,S, MacNaugh-
ton, Premier William Davis,
Hon. Robert Stanfield and R, E,
McKinley, M, P.

Special service
at Hensall Church
Special Christian Education
Service was held in Hensall
United Church Sunday morning,
September 19. For his subject,
Rev. Donald R. Beck based his
thoughts from the message "A
New Generation."
Thanks was expressed to Mrs.
Ian McAllister who as chairman
of the congregational Work and
Life committee occupied the
pulpit, read the lessons and
explained the church's program
for the coming season. Thanks
also was expressed to the
Zurich Girls ' Choir, who, under
the direction of Miss Meda Sur-
erus and Mrs, Beatrice Hess,
provided special music.
Flowers in the sanctuary were
in loving memory of Mrs.
William Kyle and Robert Baker
Sr. from their families.

Sunday School
The Hensall United Church
Sunday School started a new
term on Sunday, September 12,
with a new time set at 11;20
a. tn,
Mrs. Ian McAllister, chair-
man of the Christian Education
committee, was on hand to
hand out the diplomas and pins
to the deserving children who
had well earned them.
Those receiving gold pins
and diplomas for perfect attend-
ance were; Brenda Pepper,
Marilyn Pepper, Laurie Pepper.
Those receiving silver pins
for the most Sundays present in
their particular class were;
Chris Reaburn, George Blackwell
Jo -Anne Pepper, Julie Mock,
Karen McAllister, Ida Anne
Blackwell, Steven Corbett and
Mary Blackwell.
BIEBER - ARMSTRONG
Lawrence Gordon Bieber took
as his bride Bonita Marie Armst-
rong at a double ring ceremony
in Goshen United Church with
Rev. Huether officiating with
the assistance of Mr. Morrison,
September 4, 1971.
Candles, white and yellow
effectively decorated the church
into which the bride was escort-
ed by her father. She wore a
silk organza Victorian gown
trimmed with Swiss guipure lace
appliques and lilac ribbon. The
A-line skirt formed a chapel
length train from the back waist
and her finger-tip veil was held
by a cluster of flowers. She
carried a white prayer book
with yellow sweetheart roses
and stephanitos.
Bridal attendants were Mrs.
Elaine Parsons, sister of the
groom, as matron of honor,
while Jean Glen and Linda Tal-
bot were the bridesmaids. They
were dressed in lilac culotte
gowns with daisy trim and their
bouquets were of yellow shasta
mums.
Mrs. Bruce Keys was the org-
anist and accompanied the solo-
ist, Peter Postill.
The parents of the young
couple are Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
Bieber, Exeter, and Mr. and
Mrs, Leslie Armstrong, R, R.3,
Bayfield.
Guests from Kingston, Dundas,
Ridgetown, Simcoe, Toronto,
as well as local friends were
entertained at dinner in the
church parlours and at the Zurich
Community Centre.
The newly-weds honeymooned
in northern Ontario, the bride
wearing a brushed velvet,purple
hotpants outfit with matching
accessories.
They will reside in Bayfield.
Prior to the wedding, the
bride was entertained at showers
given by Mrs. Wayne Parson,
Exeter, Mrs. John Talbot, God-
erich, Goshen U. C. W, and Mrs.
Allan Armstrong.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Bieber
entertained the rehearsal party.
