The Department of Lands and
Forests each year collects suffic-
ient quantities of seed of Ontario
trees to maintain supplies used
by the nurseries to produce ap-
proximately 100, 000, 000 forest
tree seedlings annually for ref-
orestation purposes.
This is a large undertaking.
It requires the assistance of the
entire field organization to

The Department also relies
on the assistance of the citizens
of Ontario because much of the
seed collection is done by local
persons who obtain picking '
contracts. In this way you
help to maintain and expand
Ontario's reforestation program.
This year the Lake Huron
District has targets to collect
cones of Norway, Spruce, White
Spruce and European Larch, and
seed of Black Walnut, White
Ash, Basswood and Black Locust.
The Division Offices at Owen
Sound, Wingham, and Hespeler
will be organizing collection
programs for specific quantities
of cones and seeds.
ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS
Collection will be by contract
only. Please note this change
from previous years when the
Department was able to'accept
small quantities delivered to
the Division Offices.
Only seed of good quality is
wanted, therefore collections
should be made from healthy,
vigorous trees of good form.
Additional information concern-
ing when and where to pick is
available from any Lands and
Forests Office.
If you fell you can help reach
the targets and would like to
collect, seed picking contracts
will be available at the Division
Offices until their target quotas
are filled.
