The town of Mitchell has
purchased a new fire hall and
will issue debentures for $5, 000
to pay for a new chemical fire
truck, appliances, and hose,
The recent marriage law
amenment act, appointing clerks
of each municipality as issuers
of marriage licences will go in-
to effect on October 1.
Mr. John Kipper, the local
blacksmith in Zurich, has rec-
ently installed an electric prop-
elled blower in his forge. It is
a large improvement to the old
hand -driven bellows that have
passed out of existence.
During the electric storm early
Saturday morning, the barn of
Mr. John McC linchey, on the
Goshen Line, was struck by
lightning and completely dest-
royed, together with the season's
crop, some of the last year's
crop, and implements.
So many are taking advantage
of the continuation classes in
the Hensall Town Hall, that it
will be necessary to get more
room than is presently available.

Professor Alvin Surerus, of
Toronto, is visiting with his
mother, Mrs. Gertrude Surerus
of the Bronson Line. Mr. Surerus
is a Professor in languages at
Toronto University.
The death occured at the
Kitchener- Waterloo Hospital,
on Sunday morning of Mrs.
Floyd Miller, of Detroit, and
formerly Miss Olga Howald,
of Zurich, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Jacob Howald,
Mr. Alvin Gascho and friend
of Kitchener visited at the
home of the former's parents on
Sunday.
St, Boniface R.C. Church of
town is receiving vast improve-
ments as the interior is being all
re -decorated, which when comp-
leted will be a credit to both
pastor and congregation.
Mr. George Hess has recently
installed a painting equipment
which applies the paint in the
form of a spray and works under
pressure.

The Hensall hosiery mills are
looking for seven more girls to
round out their staff of workers,
so they can operate more effic-
iently.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Zimmer
have rented one of the cottages
at the beach of Mr. Clayton
Smith for the month, and are
enjoying pleasant warm weather.
While men are at work at the
new building being erected by Mr
Harry Hess, in Zurich, a plank
on which Mr. Chris. Heist was
standing broke, and in the fall
Mr. Haist broke his ankle. He
was taken to Scott Memorial
Hospital, Seaforth.
Mr. Charles Fritz and son,
Ward, Mr. William O'Brien,
all of Zurich, and Mr. Gordon
Turnbull, of the Bluewater
Highway, returned home after
a successful duck -hunting trip
to the northern part of Ontario.
The heaviest crop of peaches it
history is being reported this year
all over Ontario.

Lumber Kings have brought home
the first Ontario Baseball Assoc-
iation Championship in class
"D" Intermediate OBA finals.
Mr. and J. Melvin Southcott,
proprietors of the Exeter Times
Advocate are enjoying the spec-
ial trip abroad as planned and
arranged by the CWNA, and we
hope they will have a very suc-
cessful and profitable outing.

Rev. and Mrs. A, M. Amacher
and two sons were at Kitchener
on Tuesday and at London this

Lorne entered Western University
on a seven year medical course.

Miss Greta Laramie, of Hen-
sall, a very faithful and effic-
ient organist of Hensall United
Church for over 20 years, has
tendered her resignation which
became effective this week.
No successor has been named as
yet for the position,
Mrs. Ross MacMillan and
David, of Kitchener, spent last
Wednesday with the former's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Laird
Mickle and family.
Johnny Masse, star mound
performer for the Zurich Lumb-
erkings ball team this past
season, is doing double duty,
as he is now hurling the Clinton
Juveniles towards the Ontario
Juvenile "C" Title.
Mr. and Mrs. John E. Gascho,
of Zurich, celebrated their
Golden Wedding Anniversary last
Wednesday, September 13.
