Ontario farmers receive tax
rebate for second year
The Ontario Government has
begun distributing more than
$16 million among Ontario farm
property owners under the 1971
Farm Tax Reduction Program,
Municipal Affairs Minister Dalt-
on Bales disclosed this week.
The program, in its second
year, is intended to help soften
the impact of municipal and
education taxes on farm propert-
ies.
Property owners are eligible
if;
- --they live in Ontario
---their property was assessed
as a farm in 1970
- --their property has 11 acres
or more; or if less than 11 acres,
yielded a minimum of $2, 000

Cheques being mailed out are
accompanied by a pamphlet

Mr. Bales said farm property
owners with 11 acres or more
will automatically receive a
Government cheque.
For those with less than 11
acres, there is a different proc-

application form. If their prop-

from 1970 farming operations,
the form should be completed
and forwarded to the Subsidies
Branch of the Department of
Municipal Affairs.
The forms must be submitted
on or before March 15, 1972.
The Minister observed that
payments are being made sim-

erties.
Mr. Bales said, "This prog-

uently, benefits are refundable
if the property ceases to be
assessed as farm property, before

In such circumstances the owner
of the property at the time of
the change of assessment is
liable for repayment to the
Government at 810 per annum
interest.
