The 97, 500 -member denomin- ation is now organized with cong- regations relating to each other in five regions across North America. Functioning for the entire church will be a General Assembly and a General Board. Having provided for a General Assembly, under which various boards will operate, congregat- ions are now faced with the nec- essity of internalizing the concept "church is mission" said H. Ernest Bennett, Elkhard, Ind., a member of the Study Commis- sion on Church Organization. "Mission must permeate every one of our ministries, " he said. "Included in the process of change is the struggle for our identity as a people, " said Boyd Nelson, Elkhart, Ind., inform- ation services secretary of the Board of Missions. "New symbols need to emerge as the older ones are dropped or changed, " he said. In the Wednesday morning business sessions each of the four previously representative boards -- Publication, Education, Mission and General Conference --approv- ed by-laws placing them under the supervision and coordination assembly of the General Board. The reg- ions are represented on the Gen- eral Board and on each admin- istrative board. The Wednesday afternoon bus- iness session considered and ap- proved regional boundaries, task force reports, two-year interim administrative arrangements, budget and finance proposals. Regional boundaries were tenta- tively approved by the 300 dele- gates, but more definite lines will be drawn in cooperation with the General Board. The bud- get covering a 29 -month transit- ional period was kept on basically the same level as that of General Conference. Delegates on Wednesday elect- ed A. Don Augsburger, Harrison- burg, Va. as moderator and New- ton Gingrich, Tavistock, as moderator -elect of the General Assembly. Paul A. Leatherman, Akron, Pa. is secretary -treasurer. TODAY'S CHILD BY HELEN ALLEN Torbnto`ielegram Syndicate "Friendly and Outgoing" To meet Peter or to talk to him, you'd never suspect this young lad is currently attending a school for the re- tarded. Peter is 10, a friendly outgoing boy who carries on a good conversation. He conies from an extremely deprived background, the sort of situation where a child is left lying in his crib with no one paying any attention to him. Ile was four before he learned to walk. Now in a good foster home and in the encouraging atmosphere of the school; he has shown marked im- provement in both physical and mental development. The psychologist who tested him was impressed with his personality and feels he has not yet reached his potential — an encouraging outlook. Peter is a lovable youngster who seems younger than his years. He is very popular in the vicinity of his foster home, with both children and adults. He visits many people in the district and likes nothing better than to help do chores around other people's houses. A healthy, good-looking boy, Peter is Anglo-Saxon in background, and has brown eyes and dark hair. He's a sensitive child, needing an affectionate, easygoing home without academic pressures. With his winning personali- ty, he can fit into any family with children either older or younger. To. inquire about adopting Peter, please write to To- day's Child, Department of Social and Family Services., Parliament Buildings, Toronto 182. For general adop- tion information, ask your Children's Aid Society.
