Golden en Glimpses o . Y This has been one of our quiet- est weeks of the summer months. We have had a few visitors throughout the week and some of our residents were out for short visits or drives during this time but apart from the usual Thurs- day evening bingo, we have not had any entertainment. We are grateful to Itilr. Elgin McKinley and Mrs. Neil Ging- erich for donations of fresh tom- atoes, and to the ladies for their donations of nylons, cards and quilt patches during the past week. We are still in the market for these items, and are looking for corduroy guilt patches as well, as the cushions and crib quilts are certainly in great demand and are bought almost as soon as they are completed. At the same tune it gives our residents the incentive to keep busy, which in turn acts as a blues chaser. The two students placed in the Home for the past eight weeks by the Department of Social and Family Services, Miss Lois Wid- rich and Mr. Bruce Atkins, have completed their course. We know the residents will miss having them around. Miss Mary Margar- et Gingerich who has been on the nursing staff for the summer months has left to complete her plans for university entrance in Kansas, USA. Miss Susan Humph- reys, of Brampton, has joined the nursing staff here. Mr. Amos Gingerich of the maintenance staff has been vacationing over the past week and by all reports, fishing has been very good. Under the New Dem- ocratic Party constitution, Mr. Bain has the right of appeal if he feels there has been any in- justice in this action. At an executive meeting in Goderich, the Huron NDP Riding Association completed its organization of lfuron riding for the upcoming Provincial election with intensive camp- aigning to begin soon. Candidate Paul Carroll, Reeve of Goderich, advised that the sign shop will finish the first 2000 lawn signs this week and all campaign literature has been printed with the exception of the final leaflet. He supports the state- ment made by Pat Chefurka, North Middlesex NDP candidate, who indicated last week that the rural vote is switching to NDP. Carroll expressed concern about the widespread level of poverty noted in areas of iluron Riding and suggested that you had to get just one concession road away from the. main arter- ies to discoverThe true living conditions in some of the rural areas.
