PAVING ON HIGI-IWA Y 84 - Work began last week on the job of resurfacing highway 84,
from Hensall to St. Joseph, a distance of 9.3 miles. The contract for the work was let to the
Lavis Contracting Company Limited, of Clinton, for the sum of $123, 500. Workmen of the firm
are seen here as they apply the first layer of asphalt to the highway. The stretch from tlensall
to the Zurich limits has already been completed with the first coat, and now they are working
on the second thickness, which will be the finished surface. The job is to be completed in Oct,

League softball series is getting
closer, as two teams were elim-
inated from competition on Mon-
day night. Gingerich's downed
the Farm union to oust them in
three straight games, and in the
second half of the doubleheader

eke out a thrilling eighth -inning
victory over the Pontiacs, 9-7.
They won the series three games
to one.
The obiter two teams in the
first round, Charlies and the
D. J. 's, were to play the fourth
game in their series last night,
