Mr. Gundell, of the Hall Dent
Company, was in Zurich last
week and advised that their
company would soon resume
operations in the village.
Mr. William Turner and Miss
Conley, of Windsor, called in
the village last Friday. They
came up the lake on the steamer
Greyhound, and took in the Old
Boy's Reunion in Goderich.
Mr. J. Geiger, local baker,
has been notified by the Post
Office department, that he has
been appointed mail courier for
R. R. 2, Zurich, with his duties
commencing on October 1. As a
result, Mr. Geiger is offering
his baking business in Zurich for
sale, so he can give full attent-
ion to the mail route.
The council of the Township
of Hay have made necessary arr-
angements to have municipal
taxes paid directly to the banks
in Zurich, Hensall and Dashwood
With captain Lee Hoffman al-
right again, and catcher Hen-
ning's hand fast improving, the

Zurich boys should easily take
care of some of the other nines
in the playoffs ahead.
In the entrance to normal ex-
amination results posted last
week were the names of Miss
Margaret Hess, of Zurich, and
Leonard Hudson, of Seaforth,
formerly of Zurich.
An effort to get hydro power
for the village of Bayfield and
the Township of Stanley is at
present under way, and a meet
will be held in Varna in the near
future with Ontario Hydro offic-
ials.

Mr. Lloyd O'Brien treatec his
Sunday School Class to a real
big weekend outing camping near
Auburn. The happy party which
included the class of boys, Mr.
and Mrs. O'Brien, and Mrs.
Smith of London. We are sure
these boys will like their Sunday
School teacher better than ever
after this splendid outing.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Klopp
were Sunday visitors at Dashwood.
Rev, and Mrs. W. Y Drier left
this week for Buffalo, and Lake
Chatagua, N.Y., where they
will spend their vacation.
Mr. William Wagner and sister
Mrs. McClinchey of town; Mr.
and Mrs. A. Cook of Windsor,
were Sunday visitors with Mr.
and Mrs. John Wagner, (bridal
couple) at their home in Guelph.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lawrence
and son and Mrs. Fred Bean, of
Rochester N. Y. and Mrs. Rhea
Zinkahnn, of Kitchener were
visitors the past week at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Krueger
and other relatives

Rumors that a polio epidemic
is raging in the resort area of
Grand Bend is entirely false,
according to the medical health
officer, Dr. Hobbs Taylor, of
Dashwood, who has conducted a
careful examination of the sum-
mer resort.
Mr. and Mrs. Wes Hugill have
moved their household effects
into their own home, just west
of the Willert carriage shop.
Mrs. Carrie Ballantyne, prom-
inent Hensall resident, had the
misfortune while holidaying at
Manitoulin Island, to suffer a
fall while coming down some
steps, resulting in a fractured
leg.
Mr. Melvin Bedard, of Detroit
paid a friendly visit to the
people in the Zurich and St.
Jospeh district during the past
week.

The allotment to soft drink man-
ufacturers and biscuit makers was
also increased accordingly.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Eidt, . of
Welland, spent a day recently at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. R.F.
Stade. Mr. Eidt was formerly on
the staff at the local branch of
the Bank of Montreal.
Our local contractor, Henry
Lawrence and Son, have been
awarded the contract for the re-
pairing of the Geinhleder Drain,
in Elma Township, for the sum
of $10, 300.

In St. Boniface R.C. Church,
Zurich, Rev. Father Monighan
officiated at the double ring
marriage ceremony of Mary
Catherine Meidinger, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Meid-
inger, to Gerard Joseph Duch-
arme, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Louis Ducharme.
Misses Carol Thiel, Margaret
Schade and Kathryn Klopp, all
of Zurich, Mr. Philip Charrette
of the Bluewater Highway were
successful in passing their Upper
School, Grade 13, exams at
South Huron High School, Exeter.
ivfr. and Mrs. Gordon Mc-
Donald and two daughters who
were visiting at the home of
their parents. Mr. and Mrs.
William Hay, of town, and other
relatives and friends, left for
their home in Winnipeg on Tues-
day.

hit Hensel]. on Tuesday snapped
a 60 foot pine tree strewing live

A promise made several years
ago by Premier Leslie Frost will
be carried out in Goderich on
Wednesday, September 6. That
promise was that Mrs. Thomas
Pryde, of Exeter, widow of the
late MPP for Huron, who was
instrumental in having the $3, 500
000 Ontario Hospital built in
Huron County, would lay the
cornerstone of the new building.
Mr. and Mrs. Karl Haberer,
Mr. and Mrs. George Thiel, and
Mrs. Alice Thiel were Sunday
visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Stew-
art Mitchell, at Strathroy.
Mr. and Mrs. Laird Mickle,
Bob and Anne, returned home
the beginning of last week after
a four and a half week's motor
trip through the west.
