HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1971-08-12, Page 2PA ,E 2 ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS THURSDAY, AUGUST 12, 1971 Open Grand Bend medical centre On Sunday afternoon a ribbon - cutting ceremony along with several short speeches marked the official opening of the new Grand Bend Medical Centre, which has just recently been completed. Total cost of the building is about $36, 000. Two new doctors, William O'Connor and Sean Trapp, both from Dublin, Ireland, were introduced to the gathering which attended the function. The men arrived in Grand Bend sev- eral weeks ago, and have taken up practice there under a prov- incial government guaranteed salary scheme. Master of ceremonies for the afternoon program was Eric Mcllroy, who introduced chair- man of the committee in charge of the project, William Sturde- vant, along with the other mem- bers. The two doctors were introd- uced by W , F, B, MacLaren, and both spoke a few words of app- reciation to the committee and community for supplying the facilities. Other officials who were in attendance and spoke briefly were Hon. C ,S, MacNaughton, Lorne Henderson, MPP, R, E, McKinley, MP, Jim Lind, MP, Dr. R, E, Feasby, of the Ontario Department of Health, and John Payne, reeve of Grand Bend. Two members of the Grand Bend clergy, Father Boyer and Rev. E,J, Insley, both offered prayers of dedication for the new project. A deed for the property which was donated by the Grand Bend Lions Club was turned over by club president Prosper Vanbruaene to Mr. Sturdevant, and the keys to the new building were turned over by contractor George Kad- lecik to Mr. Sturdevant, as well. McKINLEY SPEAKS AT RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY tee in charge of the project, Mr. Sturdevant, vice-chairman Harry Hamilton, and secretary, Jack Mennel, all officiated at the ribbon -cutting ceremony. Mr. Mennel was also presented with a desk set for his untiring efforts on behalf of the project. Following the brief but impres- sive ceremonies, the visitors were allowed to tour the new facilities, and refreshments were served. The committee in charge of the medical centre have announc- ed they are now negotiating for the services of a dentist, and space has been reserved in the new medical centre for this purpose. A similar guaranteed income is available for a dentist wishing to open a practice in Grand Bend.
