Building Number two was the old barn and drive shed where the minister kept his horse and buggy. Often a cow and some chickens were kept there too, as was the custom of the day. Now this building is set up to represent an old Country Store and displays a variety of goods that one would expect to see in a general store of the 1800's. There is a shoe department with old fashioned •shoes - and equip- ment used by a shoemaker for the making and repairing of shoes Next to the shoe store is a waiting room. You enter through doors taken from the Balmoral Hotel, which was built in the late 1800's by Narcisse Cantin, at St, Joseph's (eight miles north of Grand Bend.) The Balmoral Hotel was dem- olished in the early 1900's, thus ending the dram of Mr. Cantin, who hoped to have a canal built from Port Stanley to St. Joseph's. Mr. Cantin is sometimes called the father of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Glass in the door to the entrance to the Hotel was import- ed from Scotland and has the picture of the Balmoral Castle engraved in the glass. The pres- ent Queen of England and the Commonwealth still spends a part of her holidays in this castle. The door is now a part of the Museum. It was from this door that the Balmoral Hotel got it's name. Also in this building you will see many old family Bibles, some in German and French, one dating back to 1795 - and also a collection of clocks, clothes, china and glassware.
