Well over 1000 persons attend-
ed the third annual Band Tattoo
in Zurich last Wednesday night,
which was highlighted by the
presence of the St. John's Girls
Drum Corps and the Durham
Girls Drum and Bugle Corps. A
total of ten bands participated
in the annual event, and paraded
from the public school to the
community park, where each
unit presented several numbers.
The St. John's Girls Drum
Corps and the Durham Girls
Drum and Bugle Corps proved to
be the most popular bands in the
tattoo, although rhe crowd resp-
onded favourably to rhe other
bands as well, The St. Marys
Marching Band, consisting of
about 50 members, was reorg-
anized after several years of
outstanding success.
The London Ladies Pipe Band,
also appealed to the large crowd,
MERNER REUNION
The 19th annual Merrier Re-
union was held Sunday at the
School blouse south of Dashwood.
After an afternoon of visiting
and a few sports conducted by
Charles and Marie Tiernan, a
delicious smorgasbord lunch was
served. Robert Merner, presid-
ent, conducted a short business
meeting following dinner. The
reunion is to be held again next
year at the sante place, the
second Sunday in July.
The executive for the corning
year is as follows; Ron Merner,
president, Clair Merner, vice-
president, Barbara Kyle, secret-
ary -treasurer. Bob and Rosemary
Raschke, sports committee.
Prizes were given to the oldest
person, Mrs. Susan Merner, 95
years of age, and the youngest
person, Scott Merner, 9 weeks
old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry
Merrier. Largest family attending
Mr. and Mrs. P, N, Smith.

and two former residents of this
area are members of rhe group.
Both Mrs, Bob Masse and Mrs.
Peter Masse are drummers in
the band. Formed about two
years ago, the group consists of
mostly mothers, who bought
their own uniforms and bagpipes
at a cost of about $300 each.
For the Milverton Band, this
was their second appearance in
Zurich, and they have been
operating since 1935. They plan
to return next year.
The Clinton Legion Pipe l3and
also proved popular to the spect-
ators, especially those of Scot-
tish ancestry. Most of the memb-
ers belonged to the former Ban-
nockburn Pipe Band.
Charles Kalbfleisch, the lead-
er of the Zurich Centennial Band,
also directs rhe Goderich Band,
which is sponsored by the Kins-
men Club of that town, Both
the Goderich and Zurich bands
performed well under this super-
vision,
Other bands taking part were
Forest Excelsoir Band, and the
3 M Pipe Band of London, they
also pleased the crowd.

Edge Exeter
Last Sunday afternoon the
Zurich Midget hardball teaiu
caste up with an upsetting vict-
ory as they downed Exeter, 7-6.
Exeter took a 2-0 lead in the
first inning but Zurich carne
back with two runs in the second,
to tie the game 2-2. Exeter
rallied for four runs in the fourth
inning to take a 6-2 lead. In
the sante inning, Zurich banged
in two more runs to stake it 6-4,
Another run in the fifth and •
two more in the final inning
gave Zurich their 7-6 victory.
Gerald Weido was strong at
bat for Zurich, banging our
three doubles and one single.
Other batters for Zurich were
Gerard Charrette, Danny Schilbe
and Rick Grenier.
The next two games of the
Midget schedule will be played
in Zurich. Thursday night Zur-
ich and Crediton will play at
6:30 p.m., while this Sunday
afternoon Zurich and Goderich
begin at 2;0 0 p.m.

Zurich Centennial Band, Jason
Roberts, CFPL personality, was
Master of Ceremonies. Greetings
were brought to the gathering
by Robert E. McKinley, Huron
