HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1971-07-15, Page 13THURSDAY, JULY 15, 1971 ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS Kippers Couple Married 50 Years Mr. and Mrs. Herb Kercher, R, R, 2, Kippen, quietly celebrat- ed their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at Hook's Restaurant in London. Mr. and Mrs. Kercher were married on June 29, 1921 in the Presbyterian Manse at Cromarty by the late Rev. David Ritchie. The bride, the former Myrtle Wright, was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Wright while the groom was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Aron Ker cher of the Bronson Line. They started farming on Lot 2, Con. 14 Tuckersmith township and are still residing at the same location. They both enjoy good health. Though now retired, Mr. Ker - cher leads a full active life, helping out with seasonal work about the farm. They have a family of three, Margaret, Mrs. Jas. Jordon, London; Doris, Mrs. Spencer Jeffrey, Staffa and Ross at home and three grandchildren, Judy, Ruth, and Bill Jeffrey. Many cards and messages of congratulations were received including a telegram from Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, a framed scroll from the Prov- ince of Ontario, messages from Huron MPP Hon. CS. MacNaught• on and Mrs. MacNaughton, Robert E. McKinley, Huron MP and Robert L. Stanfield, leader of the Opposition. M ny friends and relatives gathered together to spend a social evening and help celebrate the occasion. (At the Rear of Larry Snider Motors) EXETER 235-2200 Tuckersmith Council Pass Permits Tuckersmith Township Council meeting at Brucefield last Tues- day night granted building permit to James Knights, Gerrit Wynja, Ervin Sillery and John Caldwell. Arthur G. Coombs, R. R, 5, Clinton, attended the meeting to request cleaning out the O'Brien Drain at No. 4 Highway. The road superintendent, Allan Nicholson, was authorized to have it cleaned. Andrew Crozier, R, R. 2, Seaforth, attended the meeting seeking permission to install a water line a short distance along the road fence line in order to be able to supply water to the residence of Mrs. William Collins Henry Binnendyk, and Bruce and Ronald McGregor, all of R. R. 2, Kippen, attended the meeting concerned about a shall area not being properly drained by the Alexander drain. Council suggested they have a local drainage contractor or the Depart- ment of Agriculture investigate the problem and to return to the Staffa. Gifts included money, furnit- ure, electrical appliances and china. Council if an engineer was re- quired, Court of Revision was held on the McCowan Drain - the work is to be done in Stanley Town- ship and includes the Watson Drain watershed. A number of Tuckersmith ratepayers will be billed for outlet costs only. No appeals were made and the by- law for the drain was passed. The road superintendent report- ed No. 2 well in Egmondville was not producing and the trouble was probably the pump. Ile was authorized to have it repaired. Reeve Elgin Thompson present- ed Allan Nicholson with a certif- icate from the C,S, Anderson Road School which he attended at Guelph University in May for road superintendents. Mr. Nicholson reported he had found the three-day school of value in his work and thanked the Council fer sending him. Road accounts of $18, 800.11 were passed for payment. Clerk James McIntosh reported welfare cost's for June of about $400 compared to over $1, 000 two month's ago. Approval of a road subsidy grant of $35, 600 by the Depart- ment of Transport and Communic ation was received. This is 80 percent of the contract cost of the Sproat Bridge which is nearing completion. A letter was received from the Seaforth Chamber of Commerce to ask if the township was inter- ested in preserving the VanEg- mond house. Council authorized clerk McIntosh to notify the Chamber of Commerce it was PAGE 13 not interested in putting any money into it. A letter was received from the Ausable River Conservation Auth- ority that a work group from S, W. E, E. P., which is a Federal program, would be working in the Bayfield River flats in Egmond ville. Council approved granting a permit to George Romanik, R.
