Since the heavy thunderstorms
of the recent week, the cable of
Hay Township Municipal Tele-
phone System to the west end of
the village has not been working
the way it should be. This was
repaired on Friday, however,
then two linesmen from London
came to the village and made
the necessary alterations.

Thousands of dollars damage
was caused to this section of
Western Ontario on Sunday after-
noon, whep the worst rain storm
in history hit this area. One of
the hardest hit sections in the
storm was the village of Zurich,
where all but a few homes and
business places had at least sev-
eral inches of water in their
basements. Two business places
in Zurich, Doerr's Superior Store
and Tasty -Nu Bakery, each suf-
fered close to $2, 000 in damages
to merchandise in their base-
ments.
The community was deeply
saddened on Monday evening,
with the sudden passing of Rev.
Father Poisson, the parish priest
of St. Peter's Church, St. Joseph,
Mrs. Mary Taylor will leave
August 1 from Crumlin Airport,
for a six week vacation to Engl-
and, where she will visit with
relatives in Yorkshire, Lanca-
shire and Westmoreland. This
is her first visit to her native
homeland since coming to Can-
ada 51 years ago.

Clean Beach
The Bayfield beach relies on
those who use it for its cleanlin-
ess. However, sometimes people
are not as kind to the environ-
ment as they should be, and
they leave their rubbish behind.
The Bayfield Lions Club takes it
upon itself to gather groups of
volunteers periodically to clean
up trash on the beach. This is
one of the "unsung" things they
do, and they deserve thanks from
the community for this boost to
the ecology.
