JUST LIKE 40 YEARS AGO - When Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ducharme of Hay Township were married
40 years ago, they were taken for a ride in a Ford Touring Gar of the times, and when they celeb-
rated their 40th wedding anniversary last Saturday, they were again taken for a ride in a car of much
the same vintage. The popular couple are seen here as they are about ready to enter the antique
Cadillac owned and driven by Len Prang, of Zurich, at the right in the photo. They were taken for
a ride from St. Peter's Church at St. Joseph to the Zurich Community Centre in the vehicle.
Honor Popular Hay Township Couple
On 40th wedding Anniversary
Saturday was a happy occasion
for a popular Hay Township
couple, Mr. and Mrs. Louis
Ducharme, when they were
honoured on their 40th wedding
anniversary. In the afternoon
a Mass of Thanksgiving was sung
for them at their parish by
Father A. Robert, following
which a dinner was served to
members of the family at the
Zurich Community Centre. To
round out the evening, a recept-
ion was held in their honour at
the Community Centre, attended
by several hundred relatives and
friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Ducharme were
married 40 years ago in the
same St. Peter's Church at St.
Joseph, by Father Marchand.
After a short spell of married
life on the Bluewater Highway
the couple moved to the farm
on the 14th concession, where
they still reside.
Mr. Ducharme was born in
Courtwright, but moved to the
Bluewater area when a young
boy. His parents were the late
Mr. and Mrs. William Ducharme
He has four brothers, William,
Victor, Napoleon and Isidore;

Hay Township Council Adopts New
By -Law Governing Tile Drain Loans
At a short meeting of the
Hay Township council on
Monday night, a new by-law
governing tile drain loans was
approved. The pew by-law was
necissitated by changes in gov-
ernment legislation regarding
tile drain loans.
The amount of money which
may be used for tile drain loans
in Hay remains at $500, 000.
and the interest rate will re-
main at four percent for any
farmer needing assistance by
way of a tile drain loan.
According to clerk Wayne
Horner, the new legislation
simplifies the procedures to be
followed by an applicant, Prev-
iously all applications had to be
processed in Toronto, and in
future this will not be necessary
since the council now will have
the right to approve or reject
an application.
In other business at the meet-
ing, council gave their approv-
al to Neil Walker, to sell a
lot off his property just west of
the village of Zurich. The ap-
plication still needs approval
of the Minister of Municipal
Affairs.
A petition was received from
Lennis Gingerich, on Lot 5,
concession 10, for improvements
to the Bender Municipal Drain.
Council instructed engineer
C . P. Corbett to proceed with a
report on the drain, and present
it to council as soon as possible.
Accounts were approved for
payment as follows: general,
$141, 015; roads, $30,146; and
drains, $16, 000.
Next meeting of the council
will be held on Monday, August
