YEARS GONE
50 Years Ago
Mr. F,L, Willgoose, principal
of the London Conservatory of
Music, was in Zurich on Saturday
presiding over the musical exam-
inations.
Rev. C. Eicher, a missionary
from India on Furlough, demon-
strated some very fine pictures
at the Town Hall last Thursday
evening, Owing to the extreme
hot weather, the pictures were
thrown against rhe front of the
hall, and chairs were moved
outside.
What was known as the 1Yreat-
est 17 -day continuous heat wave
in this parr of Canada for the
last 30 years, ended on Saturday
with heavy thunderstorms and
heavy downpours of rain.
Mr. Harry Weber, of Galt, a
former tailor here in Zurich,
visited old acquaintances during
the past few days.
The Zurich ball team had a
lively time of it at the tourna-
ment in Goderich on July 1,
when they walked off with the
bacon and came home with $100.
for winning the championship
of the day. In the first game
they beat Crediton 9-2, and
then in the final round they
pushed aside Goderich 6-2.
40 Years Ago
Mr. Gerald Bedard, of the Tor-
onto teaching staff is spending
his holidays at his home here.
Mr. and Mrs. Hilton Truemner
and Mrs. E. Snider motored to
London one day last week.
A number from the village
attended the big strawberry soc-
ial at Grand Bend on Monday
evening.
Mr. Elmer Oesch who spent
the past few weeks at Grand Bend
has returned to his home in town.

A number of horseshoe tossers
of Varna were in the village
last Friday evening, and played
with the locals.
School ended on Monday, after
the usual promotion examinations
and at this time the scholars
usually show up of what progress
they have made during the year's
study.
Dr. and Mrs. A, J. MacKinnon
and two sons, Hugh and Archie,
left on. Sunday for a few holidays
at Caladon East, the Doctor's
former home.
25 Years Ago
Mr. Ivan Kalbfleisch and Mr,
Charles Thiel had a very enjoy-
able trip to the northern parts
of Ontario last week.
Mr. George Deichert is out
and around again, after being
laid up due to an injury he re-
ceived in a fall. -
Farmers are quite busy with
the hay crop, which is very light
this year, but the rest of the
crops look exceptionally good
this year.
Mrs. John Woodcock, of Mont-
real, os spending a few weeks
with her mother, at St. Joseph.
Mr. James Robinson, of Bay-
field, has disposed of his groc-
ery business to Maynard Corrie,
of Stratford. Mr. Corrie is an
air force veteran, and prior to
his enlisting operated a fruit and
vegetable stand in Stratford.
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Restemayer,
of Dashwood, entertained a num-
ber of friends -last Wednesday
night in honor of their daughter
Oneida, who was recently mar-
ried to Martin McGrenier, in
London.

The Blind Line Reunion was
held on July 2, at Seaforth
Lions Park, with 92 people at-
tending.
Brazen thieves last Thursday
night broke into the Hensall
Post Office, blew open the safe,
and escaped with approximately
$5, 970 worth of loot, some of
it cash and the rest of it stamps
and money orders.
Members of the Zurich and
District Chamber of Commerce
bade farewell to Dr. and Mrs.
A , W, Klahsen, Wingham, where
the Doctor is taking up medical
practice.
Rev. and Mrs. W.P. Fischer
and family spent a few days this
week with Rev. and Mrs. E, J.
Fischer, in Elmwood, also attend-
ing the wedding of Rev. Fischer's
sister,
Miss Linda Stade has returned
to her home in Zurich after
being a patient in St. Joseph's
Hospital, London, where she
underwent surgery.
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Dinnin
and Bill have left for their cot-
tage at Point Au Baril, where
they will spend the summer
months.

Cummings would be located in
the court house in conjunction
with the Planning Department.

since this work will be carried
out by one of the staff members
in the Clerk -treasurer's office.
