Issues Warning
Labour Minister Gordon Carton
this week issued a warning ag-
ainst the use of unsafe containers
to carry gasoline. He also appeal.
ed to all users of gasoline to
handle this volatile fuel in a safe
manner.
"This is the time of year
when thousands of people in Ont-
ario use gasoline for motorboats,
lawn mowers, power machines,
saws and other tools, " he said.
"Carelessness in the handling
and transportation of this gasol-
ine can be disastrous."
"We hope that with greater
care and observance of safety
regulations, the number of ac-
cidents and the number of fires
can be greatly reduced."
Last year, there were 18 acc-
idents reported in which three
persons died, another 11 people
were injured and damage total-
led over $50, 000.
Mr. Carton said the Energy
Branch of the Safety and Tech-
nical Division, Department of
Labour maintains a continuous
campaign to educate people
to use proper containers and in
the proper handling of gasoline
but every year, people are in-
jured and property is damaged by•
fires caused by carelessness in
handling gasoline.
He said that boatsmen are
generally very cautious about
the handling of gasoline in their
boats but when they get the
motor off the boats and into their;
homes, basements or garages for
maintenance work they flout
danger by using gasoline to clean
the machine.
Mr. Carton made a special
appeal to users of gasoline for
power tools and lawn mowers.
He urged the use of a proper
flexible pouring spout or funnel
to eliminate spillage.
He warned that the filling of
gasoline -powered lawn mowers
and other equipment in garages
or basements is hazardous. He
said gasoline spilled on the floor
vaporizes and the fumes can
be ignited by a pilot light, a
spark or someone smoking.
On containers, he said: "Gas-
oline should never be carried in
glass containers, unapproved
plastic bottles such as liquid
bleach bottles, milk jugs or wind-
shield solvent bottles."
He said other dangerous uses
of gasoline and naptha are start-
ing fires or barbecues; cleaning
clothing, rugs and machinery.

With the weather as it is to-
day, we would have to agree
that "What is so rare as a day
in June?" We are all hoping
that this weather will prevail
for our first Strawberry Festival
to be held on Saturday, June 26,
here at the Home from 2:00 p.m,
to 7:00 p.m. Tables will be set
up on the parking lot at the
rear of the I -Tome. Strawberry
shortcake, ice cream, home-
made cookies, tea, coffee or a
cold beverage will be served for
the price of $1.00 per serving.
Live music will entertain you
throughout the afternoon. All
proceeds to go towards a small
bus to be used for the resident's
pleasure. We hope you will plan
to attend and help this worthy
cause.
On Wednesday evening, the
Ladies of Dashwood Lutheran
Church sponsored the monthly
birthday party. The visiting
children provided a musical
program and a delicious lunch
was served. Strangely enough,
we didn't have any birthdays
during the month of June, but
everyone enjoyed the party just
the same.
Bingo is still very much looked
forward to on Thursday even-
ings even tho the weather is
warm.
If any of our readers who do
their own sewing have odd pieces
of material left over which would
be suitable for ties, it would be
much appreciated in the craft
room.
Our numerous visitors during
vacation time look for small
articles made by the residents
as souvenirs, and so it keeps
them busy trying to keep a few

Mrs, Gertrude Datars is pres-
ently a patient in South Huron

will soon be well enough to be
back with us,
If you happen to be driving by
in the early morning, you will
probably notice our faithful gard-
iner, Mr. Edwin Gardiner, water-
ing the plants and shrubs. No
doubt he is partly responsible
for the abundant growth of four,
five and six leaf clovers, which
Mr. John Donald seems to have
no trouble in finding while out
for his daily walks.
On Sunday evening, the Chap-
