50 Years Ago
The Ladies Hall will be offic-
ially opened with a 150 lunch
on Saturday afternoon and even-
ing.
The Auction sale of household
effects of Mr. G. Holtzman on
Saturday was well attended with
good prices prevailing.
The assessment role for the
year 1921 in Hay Township
shows the population at 2, 600
and the numbers of acres of
land is 52, 381. There were 335
clogs in the township at that time

Sorry to report that Mr, Gyrus
Colosl<y has been ill for a few
weeks but is improving nicely
which his many friends will be
pleased to learn.
Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Geiger
spent the weekend at Elkton,
Michigan and also attended the
funeral of the late Mr. Ivan
Bueschlen who was instantly
killed in a car accident.
In Chicago babies may be
paid for on the instalment plan.
But it is a safe bet if the pay-
ments fall in arrears they won't
take the babies back.
Mrs. H. Yungblut and son
Ivan, and Mr, Jacob Haberer
motored to Kitchener. Miss
Inez Yungblut, who has been
visiting in Kitchener for a time,
returned with them.
Mrs. A. Dymocke of England
arrived in town the past week
and will spend some time with
her daughter, NIrs. (Dr.) P.J.
O'Dwyer.
We notice the new milk prices
that the Zurich Dairyman has
adopted, as follows: quart 8
cents, and the pints will remain
at 5 cents, so if any one buys a
quart of milk for only three
cents more you will get twice
the quantity.

Owing to the rebuilding prog-
ram at St. Peter's Lutheran
Church in Zurich, the church
services are being held in the
local Town Hall.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bed-
ard have moved their household
effects into the home of Mrs.
Mary Miller, across from St.
Boniface. Church.
Miss Elda Reichert underwent
an operation in Dr. O'Dwyer's
office on Monday for the rem-
oval of her tonsils.
Mr. Clarence Farwell, of
Toronto visited in Zurich with
his wife over the weekend.
At a special meeting of the
council of the village is in
favour in the formation of a
high school district with the
school being built in the town
of Exeter.
The 75th anniversary of the
Blake United Church was held
on Sunday afternoon, with the
Rev. Workman, of Seaforth, as
the guest speaker.

Evangelical U.B. Church, Zur-
ich will sing,
A turkey banquet at the Dom-
inion Hotel, Zurich, marked
the golden wedding anniversary
of Mr. and Mrs, Alfred Reichert
of Hay Township near Hensall
on Wednesday evening May 23,
The community was shocked
on Monday evening to learn of
the sudden passing of Mr. Jacob
Ortwein, a lifelong resident of
the community.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W, Haberer
attended the graduation of their
son John, at Western University,
London, on Saturday.
Born- In the Clinton Public
Hospital, on Friday, May 18,
1956, to Mr, and Mrs. Mozart
Gelinas, R. R. 2, Zurich, a son.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hoff-
man of Galt visited over the
weekend at the home of their
sister, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy O'-
Brien and brother, Mr. and Mrs.
Lee Hoffman.

The new $20, 000 Post Office
in the village of Zurich was
'officially open for business on
Monday evening. Over the
weekend, Postmaster William
Siebert and staff were busy
moving new equipment and sup-
plies from the old office into
the new building.
Zurich and surrounding com-
munity lost one of its most
highly esteemed residents last
week, in the sudden passing
on Friday, of Frederick John
Haberer, in his 75th year.
Announcement has been made
this week that the Zurich Dairy
owned and operated by Francis
Kipper, has been sold to the
Hurondale Dairy of Hensall. For
the past 13 years the Zurich
r
Dairy has been operated by Mr.
and Mrs, Francis Kipper.
At a special meeting of the
council of the Township of Hay,
last Friday night, Douglas
Armstrong, of Zurich, was hired
as grader operator for the town-
ship.
Mr. and Mrs. Pete Masse,
who have been in residence at
the apartment beside Tasty -Nu
Bakery, have moved to London,
where Mr. Masse has accepted
a position with a construction
firm.

from St. Joseph's Hospital, on
Saturday where she had been a
patient for the past four weeks.
Ross Johnston is a patient in
St. Joseph's Hospital and
Charles Thiel is a patient in
Victoria Hospital, London.
Mr. and Mrs. Morley Wit-
mer, of Detroit, were weekend
visitors at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Ted Steinbach.
