Keller) The Huron County board of Education has hired a psycholog- ist to head up the Special Ed- ucation program beginning this fall. He is William E. Carter, presently a psychologist with the Brant County Board of Education. His salary was reported at $16, 000 per annum. There were nine applications for the position and four inter- views held. Mrs. Sandra Orr, presently employed at the Goderich Psy- chiatric Hospital will be the new psychometrist at a salary of, $7,500 per annum. There were 20 applications for this position and five interviews conducted. The new developmental read- ing consultant (itinerant) for secondary schools is Arthur H. Henwood, presently employed at the General Vanier Secondary School, Oshawa. Fifteen applic- ations were received for this job and six interviews held. Itinerant speech consultants will be Mrs. Bessie Hoad, pres- ently on staffin North York, Mrs. Verna Kane, presently on staff at Victoria Public School; and Mrs. Pamella Scotchmer, on staff at Exeter Public School until December 1970, There were seven other applications for these positions of which only one other teacher was inter- viewed. Itinerant remedial consultants are Mrs. Ila Kayes, presently on staff at Usborne Central; Mrs. Beryl Nicholson, presently on staff at the A/M Hugh Camp- bell School, CFB Clinton; and Miss Shirley Norman, presently on staff at Colborne Central School. There were 18 other applications being made, seven of these additional applicants being interviewed,. Chairman Bob Elliott noted that of nine persons hired, five were from Huron County. "That's a good indication to me, " stated Elliott. Other teachers appointed to fill vacant positions left by resig- nations from the staff were Miss Jane Dougall and Miss Jacque- line Dunn, Usborne Central; Miss Helen Elliott, Clinton P,S,; Miss Helen Hoshal, Holmes- vilie PS; Charles Liddle, Brook- side, Miss Linda Ward, Stephen Central; Charles Baetz and Paul Jury F, E, Madill, Wingham; David Cox, South Huron DHS; Robert Dick, GDCI; and Jaynes Moore, Seaforth DI -IS, Resignations include, Mrs. Rena Fisher, Brookside; Mrs. Darlene Castle, Miss Lois Grasby and Mrs. C. Jewitt, Clinton Public School; Mrs. Jo- Ann Rowe, Exeter PS. Miss Judith Schneider, Holmesville PS; Mrs. Ann Kingswell, Mullett Central; Mrs. Joan Clark, Vict- oria PS. D. Keller) It was mid-afternoon at the May session of Huron County Council Friday in Goderich be- fore council got down to the business of committee reports. The main portion of the meet- ing was taken up with taking the annual photography of county council members, honoring with past wardens and having their photograph taken; hearing and answering 'the questions of the Grade 8 class from 1-Iolmesville Public School; and listening to a lengthy and informative report from the Huron -Perth TB Assoc- iation by Mrs. Beryl Davidson. When the reports were present- ed for council's persusal, a number of routine matters were handled. A committee to study tax re- view (not tax reform as was prev- iously reported in the Huron County Weekly Newspapers) was appointed consisting of Gordon 1 -less, Charles Thomas, Gerry Gin, David Gower, Harold Rob- inson, Elmer Hayter and Warden Jack P. Alexander. It was also agreed that the in- augural meeting of county coun- cil in 1972 would take place on the second Tuesday of the month followed by a full session on Wednesday and a one -day meet- ing on the last Friday of the month of January. The road report showed the various contracts which had been awarded by the coun ty with local contractors and busin- essmen receiving a large perc- entage of them. It was also announced that work on Development Road 904 on County Road 8 from Summer- hill to Auburn has been approved Hensall Mr. and Mrs. Anthony T. Van Dyke, of Three Rivers, Quebec, are visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Sim Roobol,. Mrs. P. Brand, who has been a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London, has returned home. UNITED CHURCH NOTES Members of the L, O, O, F, and Rebekah. Lodges attended Divine worship Sunday morning, May 30, and were addressed by Rev, Harold F. Currie. Communion Service, Sunday June 6, at 11 a.m. Anniversary Services will be held morning and evening of June 20, at 11 a.m. and 7;30 p. m. Guest speaker for both services will be Rev. Harold Snell, B, A„ B, D, of Riverside United Church, London. Music for the day will be provided by the Junior and Senior choirs in the morning and by the Huronic choir in the evening.
