Miss Jemima Johnston moved
her household effects on Satur-
day into the house she recently
purchased from Mrs, Otterbein.
Several new cars have been
purchased in the area recently,
among them are W, G, Hess
and Charles Fritz, with touring
models. Dr. MacKinnon, with
a coupe, and William O'Brien
and Ed Beaver, both with a
second hand model,
The bricks in the hard water
well of Mr. George Thiel caved
in the other day, and certainly
made a mess of things.
Mr. S, E, Faust motored to
Goderich last week where he
purchased a fine grocery busin-
ess, and also a dwelling resid-
ence, where he will move into
during the next few weeks.
A new garage business has
opened up in the rear of Druar's
Implement Shop, and will be
operated by R. Ochlert, who is
a qualified mechanic,
The village council had pas-
sed a by-law prohibiting the
riding of bicycles on the side-
walks, also the coasting of wag-
ons and roller skating.
40 Years Ago
Mr. Jack Kipping, who has for
the past fall and winter run the
garage end at Rose's Service
Station, has discontinued this
work and has taken a position
in London.
Rev. and Mrs. Lloyd Schiefle
and family of Detroit, were
visitors for a few days with Mrs.
Schiefle's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
John Galiman of town.
Mr. Ed Datars, of town, and
the local road superintendent,
has had the streets of town all
shaped up for the summer, and
it made a big improvement.
Mr. Datars has had considerable
experience along this line, first
as Township Councilman, and
then for years as a road commis-
ioner.
It Ls calculated that out of
every dollar spent by out-of-towr
visitors in the city, seventeen
cents goes to hotels, twenty-
seven cents to the retail stores,
twenty cents to restaurants, and
ten to transportation.

A meeting of all ratepayers
is being held on Tuesday night,
to discuss the forming of a
township school area.
The Zurich fire brigade were
called to the farm of Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Atkins on Monday

morning, when fire started near
the straw stack close to the barn.
Prompt action on the part of the
firemen soon had the flames
under control.
Dr. W.B. Coxon is the proud
owner of a new Dodge car,
which he will use in his veterin-
arian practise. This is the sec-
ond new car to come to Zurich
within a week.
Mr. Oscar Greb, who is a pat-
ient in Victoria Hospital, London
is progressing very favourably,
and will be corning home in a
few days.
Russell Tieman, of Dashwood,
is spending this week in London,
where he is receiving his dis-
charge from the Canadian Army,
Mr, and Mrs. Charles Thiel
have closed their Variety Store
temporarily, while they are
making alterations for the addit-
ion of a restaurant.

Mr. and Mrs, Norman Gascho
left this Wednesday morning on
a motor trip to the eastern coast,
Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, where
they will visit at the home of
their daughter,
Mrs. Nancy Koehler has mov-
ed into her home which she pur-
chased from the late Emily Fuss
estate. We wish her every suc-
cess.
The auction sale of the effects
of the late Marjory Williams on
Saturday afternoon were sold wit':
good prices realized and was
largely attended.
Two cars damaged in a head-
on collision at Zurich incurred
a total of $150 damage. No one
was injured, A car driven by
Harold Shore, of Goderich, going
west on Highway 84 collided
head-on with a car reported
driven by Alfred Pfaff, of Hay

Dennis Aracher, son of Rev.
and Mrs. A, M, Amacher, has
joined the Royal Canadian Air
Force, and has reported for train-
ing at St. John's Quebec.
Mr. and Mrs. William Cald-
well, Brucefield, celebrated
their 25th wedding anniversary
on Friday, April 7.
A family dinner at the Iroquois
Hotel, London, Wednesday,
April 19, marked the 40th wed-
ding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Ferguson, of Hensall.
Edward E. Norminton, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Norminton, of
Hensall, has been awarded an
$1, 800 bursary by the National
Research Council to underaake
post -graduate studies in math-
ematics at the University of
Western Ontario.
