Zurich Citizens News, 1971-04-22, Page 11PAGE ELEVEN ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS THURSDAY, APRII. 22, 1971 Ontario Federation Names Wingham Man To Project The general manager of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture Jack Hale, has announced the appointment of Les Armstrong of Wingham as director of Individua Service Members Project Plan- ning. In his new capacity, Mr. Armstrong will be acting in close liason with John Stafford, president of the Huron County Federation of Agriculture, in the development of programs for Individual Service Members. Mr. Armstrong has also been appointed as secretary -manager of the Commodities Council of Ontario. No stranger to the agricultural scene, Mr. Armstrong brings a wealth of knowledge and exper- ience to his new position. For the past four years he has been director of farm broadcasting for CKNX Radio and Television Wingham. Prior to that, Mr. Armstrong was engaged in hog farming. Mrs. James Hayter, president, conducted the business. Reports were heard from all secretaries. A card of thanks and a donation was received from the Weiberg family. The ladies accepted an invitation to the Daffodil Tea at Calvary United Church, May 5. The ladies were invited to attend Ladies Day at Concordia College April 28. The mother and daught er supper will be held Wednesday May 12, with all mothers of the congregation invited. The Altar Guild is Mrs.. Lorne Genttner and Mrs. Irvin Rader. The LWML is collecting good used clothing. Mrs. Marie Restemayer cap- ably spoke on the topic, New ways to communicate the Word" Carol Rader played accordion selections. UNITED CHURCH WOMEN The April meeting of Calvary United Church Women was held Tuesday, April 13, with the Literature and Communication group in charge. Chairlady, Mrs. Clayton Merner opened the meeting with a reading. Mrs. Gerald Mason led in prayer and the scripture was read in unison. Mrs. Ken McCrae was pianist. Mrs. Sid Neeb gave the chapt- er on Mexico from the study boob on the Americas. President, Mrs. Don Gaiser dealt with the business. A donat- ion was made to Care. Banks for Pennies for peace project for the United Nations were distributed. BAPTISMS Jeffrey Gerald, small son of Mr. and Mrs. Garry Butler was baptized in Calvary United Church, by Rev. Bruce Guy. Sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hoffman; also baptized was Julianne Lynn, small daught- er of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rader. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Rader and Sharon attended the service at Zion United Church Sunday when their granddaughter and niece Karen June Miller, was one of four babies baptized. They spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Miller and family. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Rader, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Rader, and Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Rader were in Waterloo Friday evening. The ladies attended a shower for Diane Braby, and the men a stag for Bruce Weiberg, bridal couple, Mr. and Mrs. Sid Baker and BAPTISM Kathy Lynn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Merner was bap- tised Sunday morning by Rev. A, C. Blackwell, in St. Peter's Lutheran Church. The sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Schilbe. Guests following the service at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rob- ert Merner were Mr. and Mrs. Ross Johnston; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hoffman, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Merner, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Merner, and Mr. and Mrs. Huber Schilbe, Donna and Wayne. Mrs. Letta Taylor spent Sunday at Oakville with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Guenther, Recent visitors in town were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Rader and family, Stratford, with Mrs. William Haugh. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Weiberg and family, London, with Fred Weiberg. Mr. and Mrs. Stan Slezak and family, Ottawa, spent a week with Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Walper. William H. Miller is a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hutchin- son, Ohio, and their daughter Ruby (Mrs. Melvin Sherwood) Alberta, visited their old home in Dashwood and neighbours prior to returning home following the funeral of their son Alva in Preston, last week. It is expected that it will take approximately three weeks to complete the necessary calls. The information required is basically the same as that required last year, and is necessary for the completion of the assessment roll for each munici- pality. All enumerators involved in this programme carry identification cards, so please do not hesitate to ask to see these before answering questions or divulging any information. Your co-operation and assistance in this' programme will be very much appreciated.
