Zurich Citizens News, 1971-04-08, Page 14PAGE FOURTEEN ZURICH CIT17100 14111103 THURSDAY, APRIL 8, 1971 Federation Plans Campaign To Educate Consumer A resolution passed by the directors of the Huron County Federation of Agriculture, Thurs-I day night calls on the Ontario Federation of Agriculture to spon, sor an advertising campaign to educate the consumer on the portion of the price of a food product that is returned to the farmer. The resolution calls upon the OFA and commodity groups to institute a campaign of spot newspaper ads and short telev- ision commercials to tell the farmers' story to urban dwellers. In promoting the idea, Mas- on B.,i1ey, vice-president of the HFA said an urban friend of his had been suggesting this to him for several years. He said urban dwellers did not know how little of the price they paid for food products actually went into the farmers' pockets. "If we want to get across what we want to say, we're going to have to pay for it, " said Bailey. He suggested small ads stating such things as" "Last week farmers in Ontario got 21 cents per quart for milk" or "There are three cents worth of wheat in a loaf of bread." Bailey said he would eventuall, like to see legislation to bring in cost plus a percentage mark- up in food pricing. In this way, he said, the more a manufact- urer paid for a farm product, the more he could charge. Thus the trend would be to pay more to the farmer so that those along the line in processing could make more money. • The resolution asked for help in financing the campaign from the different commodity groups in the province since it was felt the OFA alone could not afford the cost of such a campaign. 30 PHONE THE SQUARE 524.7811 AIRCONDITIONEO Wed. 7 Sat.1.0 STA LEY KRAMER • peses '`IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD" IImS ID U tlTRR PANAVISION° TECHNICOLOR, Unfli d Artea1s One Show Only Each Evening at 8:00 Sun. 11, Mon. 12, Tues. 13 'THE MOONSHINE WAR' Patrick McGoohan, & Richard Widmark' Coming Next: A n4N,JICN POOP PETER SELLERS • GOLDIE HAWN gliferwt a 1 ` PROPRIETORS OF THE NEW "CHEESE HOUSE" IN ZURICH Zurich Peewees Lose Final Games In Zone playoffs To Mitchell Crew (by Doug Turkheim) During the past two weeks the Zurich Pee Wees have been competing for the zone champ- ionship and after winning the first game by a close decision, they fell into the hands of Mit- chell in the next two games and lost the zone title to them.
