Planning Board
Names Committee
(by Shirley J. Keller)
A land division committee has
been appointed by Huron County
Council and will consist of the
five members of the countyplan-
ning board as well as five non -
county councillors, Clayton,
Laithwaite, Ian McAllister, Cal
Kreuter, Roy Wescott and Ralph
Jewell.
This land division committee
will have the authority to grant
consent to severances in any
municipality on the county that
does not have a committee of
adjustment with authority to
grant consent.
The land division committee
will grant the same type of
consents, such as the simple
separation of land from existing
holdings, quit -claim deeds,
mortgages and so on, as a com-
mittee of adjustment. The
committee will also hold public
meetings and conduct its busin-
ess in the same mariner as a
committee of adjustment.
The budget for the planning
board showed that expenses
will likely be down this year.
The estimated 1971 budget is
$35, 000 as opposed to $42, 320
actually spent on county plan-
ning last year.
The new Huron County Plan-
ning Director, Gary Davidson,
is to receive a salary of $8, 000
for the remainder of the year.

HARD TO KEEP ON SCHEDULE
It hasn't come as any surprise
to me at all that it is difficult
to raise a family. My own dear
mother used to tell what a heck
of a time she had with me and
I naturally suspected that I would
have trouble from time to time
with any family I would ever
bring up.
What I didn't bargain on was
the fact that as the older I get
(and the older my children be-
come) the less I am my own boss.
I don't mean to say that my
children rule the household in
the strictest sense of the word.
It is just that in my eagerness for
them to have a good life and
experience all the wonderful
things in life, I find that sched-
ules often conflict... and it is
usually my plans which must go
by the boards.
It is impossible any more to
go away visiting with or without
the children. I'll explain.
There is always something
going on for the kids it seems.
Their schedules are actually
busier than mine... and I have
been editing a newspaper for the
$1, 500. Board members' salaries
will take another $5, 000; con-
sultants' fees, $3, 500; land
division committee, $2, 000;
office salaries, $5, 000; equip-
ment, $5, 000; public relations,
$1, 000.

BY SHIRLEY J. KELLER
past month. That's right, when
you figure three kids times the
number of things each has plan-
ned you run into a whale of a
number of obstacles when you
want to go away.
My husband and I have found
it is impossible to find a day
when it is convenient for every-
one in the family to travel out-
of-town. We've just given up ori
that idea. But now we find we
can't leave without them either
because so very often, the kids
activities involve transportation
here or there... or... well, to
be perfectly frank we don't
wish to put temptation in their
paths by leaving them alone
for any length of time.
Every day at our house is a
circus. Yesterday, for instance,
was typical of the kind of frust-
rating happenings which go on
daily... and today hasn't changed
the situation one little bit.
School holidays were on this
week which made things a little
more awkward perhaps. It all
started when my regular baby-
sitter had to be out of town and
could not care for our youngest.
No problem at all, I thought only
to find out that my built-in
homegrown babysitters were all
booked up solid. Fortunately for
me I have a friend in town who
pinch-hits for my regular baby-
sitters on occasion.
But getting back to my kids
for yesterday, I discovered that
our eldest boy was going to a red
hot jamming session for the who1
afternoon and that our daughter
had been invited by a friend's
mother to spend the entire day in
the big city on a shopping trip,
Naturally, I assumed when I
arrived home in the evening to
have peace and quiet because
the children had all had their
excitement for the day. Not so.
As soon as my husband and I bit
the front doorsill we were bom-
barded with questions about when
we could drive our eldest son to
a friend's cottage to spend the
night, when we could provide
transportation for our daughter
to a meeting out of town follow-
! ing an early hockey garne at the
1 local arena; and when our young -
1 est son could have his playmate
over before dinner or after.
And it just so happened that
last evening, my husband had an
appointment at 7 o'clock and I
had a meeting at 8 o'clock wialch
left everyone going in five dif-
ferent directions and only one
car for the lot. What's more,
we had a babysitting problem all
over again that evening!
After the customary screaming
and hollering which usually pre-
ceeds any decision in our home,
we agreed on the timetabling
for the evening. I went off to my
meeting convinced that everyone
was happy only to return home
about 10:15 to discover my husb-
and's appointment had kept him
longer than expected and had
thrown out the total plan for the
rest of the family.
This morning when I awoke
from a troubled sleep (well, who
could rest after excitement like
that?) I discovered a new day
and new problems. Our eldest
had to have transportation back
home, our daughter had a full
day planned from morning until
well into the evening, my husb-
and had to be at the office early
and I... well, I had left my boots
at the office... and it had snow-
ed... and I needed the car to
get to work... and... oh what the
heck, another typical day under-
way.
