VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONS - The boys of St. Boniface School, Zurich, walked off with
the Huron County Open Volleyball Championship this past Saturday, when they eliminated
Howick Central in the final garne, played at Goderich Collegiate Institute. Members of the
team are, back row left to right, Larry Smith, Eugene Hartman, Mrs. Dara Hartman, coach,
Mark Gelinas, Paul McGinnis, Ricky Masse. Front row, left to right are Paul Masse, David
Denomine, Pat Bedard, Wayne Hoffman and Steven Bedour. Twelve to 15 teams took part in
the tournament, mostly from the north part of the county.
Bantams Closer T OM A Title

On Monday night the Zurich
Bantams started the semi-final
playoff series for the OMHA
championship against Platts-
ville. The first game was in
Plattsville and Zurich took
the game by a 6-1 score.
The second game of the
series was played last night

Zurich went into a 1-0 lead
when Ken Regier capitalized
on a passing play from Bill
Webster at the 4:45 mark of
the opening period. Each team,
playing very strong, missed
several chances as both goalies
came up with some excellent
saves.
Pat Bedard scored on an un-
assisted play at the 8:00 mark
of the second stanza to give
Zurich a 2-0 edge. Another
goal by Bedard at the 14:57
mark gave Zurich a 3-0 lead
with one period remaining.
Ben Doan put Plattsville on
the scoreboard at the 4:45
mark of the final period, which
narrowed the margin to 3-1
for Zurich. Forty seconds later
Gerald Weido increased Zur-
ich's lead to three goals again,
scoring on a lone effort. Mid-
way through the period Pat
Bedard scored his third of the

ortable 5-1 lead. At the 14:55
mark Gerald Weido scored to
put the game out of reach for
Plattsville and make the score
6-1.
The Bantams have worked
hard to get this far and now,
with help from local hockey
fans, feel they can put in a
good name for themselves in
the All -Ontario Championship
for the second year in a row.
Show your enthusiasm by sup-
porting the Zurich Bantams in
another championship.

Peewees Down HP

Last Thursday night the Zur-
ich Peewees played the first
game of the zone play-offs
with Huron Park and came up
with a convincing 9-0 victory.
At the 2:15 mark of the first
period Wayne Schilbe scored
what proved to be the winning
goal. Two goals by Wayne
Clarke before the first period
ended gave Zurich a 3-0 lead.
Wayne Schilbe and Wayne
Clarke scored second period
goals for Zurich to put them in
front 5-0.
Fred Mominersteeg scored
two goals midway through
the final period to put them
ahead by seven goals. Before
the game ended Wayne Clarke
and Billy Hay scored to give
Zurich their 9-0 victory.
Randy Oke earned the shut-
out in the Zurich nets.

Former 'Champions Trounce Juniors

In an exhibition hockey
game played between the Hen-
sall-Zurich Juniors and the
former all -Ontario Hensall-
Zurich Combines, the old-
timers came up with a 12-2
victory, showing they had
plenty of hockey left in them,
The game was organized to
raise money for injured play-
ers playing in the league the
past year.
In the first period the Old -
Timers took a 4-0 lead. Den-
nis Morrisey scored his first of
three goals to give the old-
timers a 1-0 lead. Two goals
by Graig Chapman midway
through the period gave the
old-timers a 3-0 lead. Before
the period ended Morrisey
scored his second goal.
The old-timers scored four
more goals in the middle stanza
holding the Juniors to one goal.
Dennis Morrisey gave the Old-
timers a 5-0 lead with a goal
at the 3:46 mark. Paul Draper
put the old-timers ahead 6-0
before the Juniors came up with
their first goal. At the 9:35
mark Ron Desjardine put the
Juniors on the score -board. Twc
more goals by Earl Wagner and
Dale Turvey put the Old -Timer
ahead 8-1 at the end of two
periods.
Again in the final period the
Old -Timers out -scored the
Juniors 4-1. The Old -Timers
went ahead 11-1, before the
Juniors scored their second goal.
Harold Jacques, Bill Shaddick
and Mike Cushman scored for
the Old -Timers before Jim
Ramer scored the second goal
for the Juniors. At the 19:05
marl< of the period, Joe Liver-
more scored the final goal of
the game to give the Old -Tim-
ers their 12-2 victory.
