Grand Bend Peewees Win WOAA
Title In Two Victories Over Belgrave

During the past week the
Grand Bend Pee Wee's eliminat-
ed Belgrave in two straight
games to win the WOAA champ-
ionship.
GRAND BEND 6 - BELGRAVE 4
Last Wednesday night Grand
Bend downed Belgrave 6-4 in the
first game in a two out of three
playoff series.
Kevin Datars gave Grand Bend
a 1-0 lead at the 18:30 mark of
the first period.
At the 1:20 mark of the second
stanza Datars scored his second
goal to give Grand Bend a 2-0
lead. In the same period Datars
was given a game mis-conduct,
Don Carter and David Shiell'
each scored for Belgrave to tie
the game at 2-2.
By the 14 minute mark of the
final period Steve Jennison
scored three big goals along with
a single by Cameron Haist to
give them a 6-2 lead. Before the
game ended Phil Chandler scor-
ed twice for the visitors to end
the game at 6-4.
In the second game of the
WOAA playdowns between Grand
Bend and Belgrave, Grand Bend
came out on top by one goal as
they downed their opponents 7-6
in an exciting overtime period.
The first period ended in a 2-2
tiw with each team playing a ver}
strong game of hockey.
In the second period Belgrave
outscored Grand Bend 2-0 to give
them a 4-2 lead with one period
remaining.
However, in the last stanza,
Grand Bend came back with two
goals to tie the game and force
it into overtime.
Grand Bend went ahead 6-4 in
the overtime on two quick goals

back and tied up the game before
the period ended. With only one
minute remaining in the period
Cameron Haist picked up a pass
from Steve Jennison and flipped
it in the top corner to give Grand
Bend their second straight victory
and the WOAA Championship.
The trophy was presented by
Bert Clifford of the WOAA. Grand
Bend will now advance into the
semi-finals for the OMHA champ-
ionship.

Top League In
Final Statistics
Final statistics released late
last week by Bill Sampson of
London, statistician of the west-
ern division of the Ontario Hock-
ey Assiciation junior "0" series
showed three Exeter Hawks won
individual titles.
Larry Haugh won the league's
scoring championship, goalie
John Hayter chalked up the best
goals per game average and
defenceman Jo O'Rourke led the
loop in penalty minutes served.
Haugh scored 30 goals and
picked up 56 assists for his leag-
ue leading total of 86 points.
His assist total was also best in
the league,
Hayter allowed only 3.04 goals
per game throughout the season.
Second in the goal tender dep-
artment was the Hawks' back-up
netminder Dennis Ferguson who
allowed 28 goals in seven games.
O'Rourke who is also captain
of the Hawks spent 182 minutes
in the penalty box.
Three members of the Lucan
Irish placed in the top ten
scoring race. Torn Hodgins was
fourth with 76 points, Dave Rev-
ington was eighth with 61 points
and Jim Hearn finished tenth
on 59 points. John McKinley
of the Hensall-Zurich Co -Ops
placed ninth with 60 points.
Ed Landon of Belmont was
second to Haugh with 81 points
while Bob Zehr of Tavistock was
the high goal scorer with 50 and
third in points with 78.
