Which will it be for March this year — in like a lion and out like a lamb — or vice versa? These two spring youngsters look like they've got the month sewn up — although the Ontario Weather Services, part of the Ontario Department of Agriculture and Food say, this has been one of the roughest winters in recent years — and may continue to be so for some time yet. (Photo by the Ontario Dept. of Agriculture and Food) KING VIII A brilliant drama series chronicling the historical saga of Henry VIII of; England and his six wives will be presented on CBC -TV in six 90 -minute episodes, for telecast Sundays at 9 p.m. (in color), starting March 21. Swiss Resident Seeks Information On Zurich History A resident of Switzerland has written to reeve Gordon Hess, of Zurich, asking for further infor- mation regarding early settlers in this community. If anyone can supply this type of inform- ation, they might contact Mr. 1 -less who will in turn relay the messages to the writer of the letter. The letter received by the reeve is as follows; February 14, 1971 To the Mayor of Zurich, Zurich, Ontario, Canada. Dear Sir; I take the liberty to solicit your assistance in the following matter. For the last two years, I have been working toward the prepar- ation of a book which will be titled "The Swiss in Ontario, past and present." I came back last year for further research, but unfortunately I didn't get a chance to drive to Zurich. In connection with my book, I am trying to get more inform- ation about Frederick Knell, the founder of your town. I have in my possession a copy of your centennial booklet 1856-1956. I know that the Swiss Consul in Toronto, Mr. Seinbinelli, attended the celebration which was organized by the Historical Committee (Prof. Kalbfleisch, Chairman, Mrs. Gideon Koehler, Miss Olive O'Brien, Mrs. Bryce Mack, Mr. Harry G. Hess, Mr. Gordon Hess, Mr. Lee Hoffman, Mr. William H. Edighoner). The anove mentioned booklet gives some information about Frederick Knell, but I wonder if someone (perhaps of the Historic- al Committee) could give me more particulars about F. Knell, such as his date and place of birth and death, whether he left any descendants. whether he came from abroad or from an- other part of Canada before settling in Zurich, etc. Also I wonder if not some other Swiss families (or at least of distant Swiss origin) were not amongst the early settlers, for names such as Vauthier, Oesch, Zeller, Merrier (Murner), Hof- ele (Haefeli), sound definitively Swiss. I should be therefore obliged to you if you could pass on my THURSDAY, MARCH 11, 1971 inquiry to someone who in turn would be kind enough to assist me and to answer me. I am thanking you very much in advance and remain, dear sir, Sincerely yours, E.H. Bovay, P. S , My project has aroused the interest of many Universities, Libraries and personalities, both in Canada and Switzerland. If all goes well, my book will be published next year. --Perhaps there is more about F. Knell in a "history of Huron County?" 49 19 SAYS: Saver/Ata in* HARD ro TELL /FANUSBAND IS YAWN/NG ORrRY/NG TO GETA WORD /4,...
