The February rte ting of the
United Church Women, Zurich
was held on Wednesday, Februai
10, at 2 p. m. in the church
basement. Mrs. Melvin Brown,
convenor of the program, open-
ed the meeting with thoughts or
prayer.
Hymn, "I am Thine 0 Lord"
was sung. Miss Pearl Wurtz read
the scripture, followed by a
duet by Mrs. Beatrice Rader
and Mrs. Ken Breakey, accomp•
anied by Mrs. Beatrice Hess.
A panel, consisting of Mrs.
M. Brown, Mrs. J. Huether,
Miss Olive O'Brien and Miss
Pearl Wurtz discussed 'What
we as Christians think of the
hunger situation.' The offering
was received and another duet
was enjoyed by all.
Mrs. J. Huether and Miss
Olive O'Brien acquainted the
gathering with the new study
pocket on "The Americas."
A closing hymn was sung and the
meeting was turned over to the
vice-president, Miss Ethel
Gabel.
The business was opened with
prayer. The minutes and treas-
urer's reports were read and
adopted. The World Day of
Prayer will be held on Friday,
March 6, at 3 p.m.
Some thank -you notes were
' read including one from Joan
Rader, of Newfoundland, who
is back to work after having
undergone surgery.
The meeting was closed with
the Benediction, followed by
lunch.

Many Games Played in Rec League
To Catch Up With Postponements

The Zurich Rec League has
seen plenty of action in the past
week with re -scheduled garnes
being played along with the reg-
ular games in the schedule.
FLYERS 4 - MATES - 1
Last Thursday night the Flyers
downed the mates 4-1.
The only Mate goal of the
game came at the 15:45 mark
of the first period on a goal by
Paul Bedard.
The Mates held their one goal
lead until the 3:04 mark of the
final period when Rick Thiel
tied the game for the Flyers.
Doug Stade came up with the
Lutheran Women
First Zurich Girl Guides,
their Captain Mrs. Carol Deitz
and their mothers were guests
of the Lutheran Church Women
at their February meeting.
Miss Dianne Klopp and Miss
Lois Doerr working on their
Gold Cord presented a program
on Switzerland. Dressed in
native costume and with the
help of slides, pictures and
other articles on display they
gave a very informative desc-
ription of Switzerland. The
Girl Guide Company sang a few
songs to add to the program.
Campfire and taps with the
good night salute taken by their
Captain, was followed by a
social hour. Miss Debbie Eckel,
Miss Lynn Schwartzentruber,
Miss Carol Smith served lunch,
These Guides are working on
their Hostess Badges.
Mrs. Donna Klopp thanked
the Guides, Mrs. Margaret
Deichert presided for the busin-
ess meeting. Mrs. L. Prang
was presented with a LCW pin.
Mrs. Prang served as president
the past two years. A letter of

Flyers goals were accounted for
by George Suplat and Tim Deck-
er.
BLUEWATER 6 - SABRES 5
In the other Thursday night
game in Zurich Rec League,
the Bluewater edged the Sabres
6-5.
The Bluewater took a command
ing 4-0 lead in the first period
on two goals each by Ron Over-
holt and Don O'Brien. At the
15:00 minute mark Aubrey Bedard.
put the Sabres on the score sheet
and ended the first period at 4-1.
The Sabres shut -out the Blue -
water 3-0 iji the second period.
Aubrey Bedard scored twice and
Paul Corriveau once to tie the
game at 4-4,
• Two goals by Phil Overholt
with -in a minute gave the Blue -
water a 6-4 lead, but before the
game ended Paul Corriveau
scored for the Sabres to narrow
the margin.
HENSALL 9 - FARMER's U. 2
In the Sunday night game
between Hensall and the Farmer's
Union, the Hensall Generals
carne out on top winning 9-2.
Bob Carlisle put Hensall into
an early 1-0 lead, Larry Merner
kept the game close tying the
score minutes later. Charles
Schwalm scored to give Hensall
a 2-1 lead at the end of the first
period.
The only scoring of the second
period was a goal by Bruce Hort-
on which gave Hensall a 3-1 lead.
Bob Carlisle scored to give
Hensall a 4-1 lead before Ray
Weido scored the second Farmer's
Union goal to make the score 4-2.
Four goals by Bob Carlisle and
one by Charles Dalyrmple assured
Hensall of their victory.
FARMER'S UNION 13 - MATES 5
In one of the re -scheduled
games on Sunday afternoon the
Farmer's Union trounced the
Mates 13-5.
The Farmer's Union took a
4-2 lead in the first period on
two goals each by Gerald Shantz
and Jim Consitt. Eric Smale and
Isidore Laporte were first period
goal scorers for the Mates.
Eric Smale narrowed the marg-
in to 4-3 in the second period
before Jim Consitt came back
with two goals, to put the Farm-
er's Union in front, 6-3.
Four goals by Gerald Shantz
and three from Jim Consitt in the
final period assured the Farmer's
Union of their victory. The two
last period goals for the Mates
were scored by Eric Smale.
SABRES 5 - FLYERS 3
In the second re -scheduled
game on Sunday afternoon the
Sabres edged the Flyers 5-3.
The Sabres took a 3-2 lead by
the end of the first period on
two goals by Ken Clarke and one
by Paul Corriveau. Rick Thiel

There was no scoring in the
second period with a few injuries
occurring.
