Although the organization presently has a deficit of about $125. the grant which will ar- rive this spring from the Dep- artment of Agriculture will more than take care of the amount owing. Secretary -treasurer Mrs. Margaret Deichert told the gath- ering that the grant will amount to at least $600. Claire Deichert, R. R.1, Zur- ich, was re-elected as president of the organization for the year. Elected as first vice-president, was Glen Thiel, R. R. 2, Zurich, and second vice-president, Mrs. Irene Steinbach, R. R. 3, Zurich. Mrs. Deichert was again appoin- ted as secretary -treasurer. Directors elected at the an- nual meeting are; Joseph Hoff- man, William Baechler, Larry Merner, Herb Beierling, Fred Mommersteeg, Ken Gascho, Mrs Belle Merner, Mrs. Anne Flax - bard, and Vincent Doyle. Alb- ert J. Kalbfleisch presided over the elections, and also spoke words of encouragement to the organization. A lengthy discussion took place at the meeting regarding how to get more interested persons in- volved in the fall fair, and a suggestion was brought forth by secretary Mrs. Deichert that every organization and group in the community be asked to name a couple of members to serve as associate directors, This recommendation was adopt- ed by the meeting. Also corning up for lengthy discussion at the meeting was the horse show, which last year was held on a separate day from the fall fair itself. Since this did not prove too successful, the meeting agreed to study the situation further at a later meet- ing. Various committees gave rep- orts at the meeting, and when the matter of a 4-11 Calf Club came up, there was a great deal of criticism towards the Depart- ment of Agriculture staff at Clinton. According to the rep- orts, the staff had offered to render assistance to the 4-11 Club, but this help never arrived and the group and their leaders were left pretty well on their own. Despite the bad weather and the fair having to be postponed one day, most of the depart- ments reported better exhibits than in previous years. In most cases there were more entries than in previous years, as well. 0 Obituary MRS. IDA WURM Mrs. Ida Wurm passed away in Blue Water Rest Horne, Zurich Tuesday, February 2, 1971.
