G. Holtzman is attending the
annual meeting of the Western
Mutual Weather Insurance Comp-
any in Woodstock this week.
The carnival, held at the local
rink last Tuesday, was well at-
tended with many attractive
costumes being exhibited.
The ice -houses in Zurich are
being filled, and the ice is of
good quality, considering the
mild weather that has been prev-
alent.
A slump is being expected in
the price of potatoes on the local
market, as right now the price in
London has dropped to below $1,00
per bag, and there seems to be an
abundant supply on hand,
The Men's Adult Bible Class of
the Evangelical church, on Sun-
day at their regular meeting, had
the honor or presenting their org-
anist, Miss L. Siebert as a slight
form of appreciation for her serv-
ice with two handsome pieces
of community silver. Miss Siebert
made a very suitable reply as to
the pleasure she has in doing this
work, also for the very acceptable
gifts.
Monday night's storm filled up
every possible vacancy with more
and more of the beautiful white
stuff, and all the roads are block-
ed in every direction. The not-
orious Bluewater highway is im-
passible by either man or beast.

The Conservative and Liberal
parties in Ontario both have rich
farmers as their leaders now.
Who can still maintain that there
is no money in farming?
Last year Canada produced 10,
000, 000 pounds more creamery
butter than she did the year befores
yet she imported 30, 000, 000
pounds. Dr. Ruddick, federal
dairy commissioner, estimates
that Canada will, within two years,
be producing butter to meet her
own needs,
Professor Herbert Kalbfleisch
of New York city visited with
friends in town and also his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kalb-
fleisch of the 16th concession. Hav,
William O'Brien, Lloyd O'Brien,
0. Surerus, and D. Oswald, at-
tended the Exeter vs Seaforth
hockey game at Seaforth on Tues-
day evening, making the trip by
auto.
A very happy surprise party was
held on Thursday evening, Janu-
ary 29, at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Garnet Jacobe, Parr Line,
when some twenty young people
of the fourteenth concession met
to celebrate Mr. Jacobe's birth-
day.

Mellett for the past five years,
has been sold to Charles lvlinshall,
who comes here from the town of
Ingersoll.
Last Thursday a number of
members of the Zurich Lions
Club joined members of the Clin-
ton and Seaforth Clubs, at the
farm home of Mr. White, at Sea -
forth, in the celebration of Burn's
Night.
Fishermen are already strolling
along the lake and setting nets
with the hope of getting a taste
of fish. But at the present there
is no safety on the lake for that,
It has been reported that the
Ward Homestead at Varna has
been purchased by one of Varna's
influential businessmen.
J. L, Mundy, of Mitchell, has
been assigned to join the staff
of the Bank of Montreal, in Zur-
ich.
The congregation of the Dash-
wood Evangelical Church, on
Sunday paid tribute to the boys
of the church who served during
the war.

Walter R. Miller, 61, who had
farmed all his life in Hay Town-
ship, died suddenly from a heart
attack on January 31, at his home,
concession 14, Hay.
Michael Meidinger of town, a
well-known stone mason of Zur-
ich, nearly all his lifetime, can
still lay bricks as fast and neat
as any mason. Last week at the
age of 82 he and Stan Smith of
the BiueN..zter Highway, put in
two large fireplaces and chimn-
eys to the roof in 11 hours each.
Charles Rau and Leonard Sarar-
as of the Bluewater Highway and
Rosaire Bedard, of the 14th con-
cession were in Toronto last week
attneding the retail farm equip-
ment show.
Miss Mary Louise Fritz has
accepted a position with the
Prudential Life Insurance Comp-
any, of Toronto. We wish her
every success.
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Buehler,
of Kitchener were weekend visit-
ors at the home of their parents,
Mr. and Mrs. So. Baechler.

Deputy -District Governor Rus-
sell Grainger paid his official
visit to the Zurich Lions Club, at
their regular dinner meeting in
the Dominion Hotel, on Monday
night. The official, who is also
a member of the Zurich Club,
spoke to the members on "Mon-
ism."
The Zurich Lions Juveniles won
the group championship in Juven-
ile "D" competition on Tuesday
night when they defeated the
Hensall team 6-1, to eliminate
them in three straight games.
Frank Ellwood, CNR agent in
Hensall for the past six years,
leaves for Oshawa on Monday,
February 13, where he has been
transferred.
Residents of Zurich and district
were saddened on Sunday to
learn of the sudden passing of
Clifford Weido, highly esteemed

Hospital, on Sunday, February 5.

arrived in Zurich on Friday to
spend a few weeks vacation with
