Hensall and Sabres Win Games
in Zurich Rec League Hockey

On Thursday night the Hen-
sall Generals downed the
Flyers 7-6 in Zurich Rec League
play.
Hensall outscored the Flyers
s-1 in the first period with
goals by Ken Smale, Rick Park-
er and Charles Schwalm. The
Flyers' goals were scored by
Gord Hay.
In the second period Hensall
took a more commanding lead
as they scored four goals to the
Flyers two. Dewy Wurm, Bob
Carlisle, Ken Smale and Mur-
ray Baker led the scoring in
the second period. George Sup-
lat and Richard Fisher scored
the two Flyer's goals.
The final period saw the
Flyers come close to winning
the game as they out -scored
the league leaders, 3-0,
George Suplat scored twice and
Tim Decker once to end the
game 7-6.
SABRES 13 - MATES - 7
In the other Rec League game
played the Sabres trounced the
Mates 13-7.
First period goal scorers for
the Mates were Paul Corriveau
with two and Pete Larezon
scoring the single. Larry 1-iess
scored the only Mate goal of
the first period.
In the second stanza the
Sabres scored six goals to the
Mates two. Aubrey Bedard
scored four goals and Larry
Denomme two, to lead the
Sabres scoring. Eric Smale
and Boh Johnston scored. goals
for the Mates.
The final period saw the two
teams play to a 4-•1 tie. Goal
scorers for the Sabres in the
final period were Paul Corriveai
Larry Denomme, Pete Larezon
and Nen Clarke. Larry !less
scored twice and Doug O'Brien
and Bob Johnston once to end
the game 13-7 for the Sabres.

On Sunday night the Farmer's
Union downed the Bluewater
9-8 in a very close game.
Gerald Shantz scored twice
in the first period to give the
Union a 2-1 lead. Don O'Brien
scored the Bluewater goal in
the first period.
The teams played to a 3-3
tie in the second period. Jini
Bedard, Burnie Denomme and
Don O'Brien led the Bluewater
scoring in the second period.
Scorers for the Farmer's Union
were Gerald Shantz with two
and a single to John Gascho.
Again in the last period the
teams played to a 4-4 tie.
The Bluewater took the lead
within 30 seconds but the Farm-
er's Union cause back to win
the game. Don O'Brien and
Jim Bedard scored two goals
each for the Bluewater. Gerald
Shantz with two and Larry
Merner and Ray Weido with
one scored to give the Farm-
er's Union their victory.

Zurich Peewees
Lose to Hensall

On Monday night the Zur-
ich Pee- Wees finished their
regular schedule in defeat, as
they were edged 3-2 by Hen-
sall.
The only scoring in the first
period was at the 8:45 marl<
when Perry Mattson shot Hen-
sall into a 1-0 lead.
Paul Robinson tied the game
midway through the period.
Before the second period was
over J)ave (Kinsman scored for
llensall to give thein a 2-1
lead.
In the final period Paul
Robinson again tied the game
for Zurich, but Jamie Cald-
well came back with the
winning goal before the period
ended.

lete report of the Minor Hockey
Day held in Zurich last Saturday.
The Citizens News sportswriter
was among the hundreds of stud-
ents who were stranded at South
Huron District High School during
the severe snow storm which hit
the area, and was not able to
prepare the write-up for this edit-
ion. A complete report on the
event will appear in next week's
edition of this newspaper.
Hensall-Zurich Co -Ops Lose Two
Games; Finish Out of Playoffs

BELMONT 6 - CO-OPS 4
Last Wednesday the Hensall-
Zurich Co -Ops lost their hopes
of gaining entry into the Jun-
ior "D" playoffs as they were
downed 6-4 in Belmont. Zurich
led the game early 2-0, but
were unable to hold the lead
and gain the two points.
The only scoring of the first
period came at the 17:06 mark
when John McKinley shot the
Co -Ops into a 1-0 lead.
The Co -Ops tool< a 2-0 lead
in the second period when
Brian Campbell scored on a
play from John McKinley. The
rest of the period saw Belmont
take command as John Willsey
scored twice and Brian Abbey
and Ed Landon once, to shoot
them into a 4-2 lead.
Belmont took a 6-2 lead on
goals by Ed Landon and Doug
stromes before the Co -Ops
found the range for two more
goals. Shane McKinnon and
John McKinley scored the last
two Co -Op goals within a
minute of each other.
Each team drew eight penal-
ties in the game.
TAVISTOCK 13 - CO-OPS 1
On Sunday afternoon the
Hensall-Zurich Co -Ops were
thumped 13-1 by Tavistock in
a battle -scarred game.
After Tavistock took a 2- 0
lead on goals by Bob Zehr and
Randy McIntosh, the Co -Ops
Brian Campbell scored the
lone goal of the game for them
with Randy Decker drawing
an assist. Before the first
period ended Larry 1-Iohner and
Don Zehr scored two more goal
to give Tavistock a 4-1 lead.
There was no scoring in the
second with each team having
several good chances but not
being able to capitalize.
In the final period Tavistock
came on strong outscoring the
Co -Ops, 9-0.
Bob Zehr led the scoring in
the final period with three
goals. The remaining goals
were all singles scored by
Charles Bean, Doug Weicker,
Terry Roi, Larry Hohner,
John Fuller and Randy McInt-
osh,
There were a total of 25 pen-
alties handed out with the Co -
Ops drawing 14, including one
major and a misconduct. Tav-
istock drew 11 penalties includ-
ing one major and two mis-
conducts.
