The seed catalogues are beg- inning to arrive from the seed companies, and before we know it, ►anuary will be gone, and spring just around the corner, Last Sunday evening, a film was shown, "The Queen is Crow- ned" which was a film of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth, The residents appeared to enjoy the colour and pageantry of this event, Tuesday evening, the ladies of Blake Mennonite Church were the hostess' for the monthly birthday party, The only resid- ent with a birthday during the month of January was Mrs. El- izabeth Richardson. The Ropp Family, of Ailsa Craig provided a musical program which was enjoyed by all. Following the program, a delicious lunch was served by the ladies in charge. On Wednesday and Thursday evenings, the film "Ma & Pa Kettle on Vacation" was shown. The show was enjoyed by both outside visitors and residents, many of the residents enjoying it as much the second night as the first. Most of our residents are much more enthusiastic about a game of cards if an old neighbour or card partner drops in to thresh over some of the good old times over the card table. The regular bingo party was changed from Thursday to Fri- day evening last week, We are grateful to the members of the Ladies Auxiliary for their assist- ance. On Sunday evening, the guest minister for the chapel service was Rev. George Ander- son, of the Anglican Church, Exeter, We wish to thank the persons accompanying him who_ assisted in any way in the service The sympathy of the residents and staff is extended to the fam- ily of the late Mr, Ernest Stant- on and the family of the late Mr, Tames Cottle. We are pleased to have Mrs. Myrtle Woodford back with us after her stay in hospital, and to welcome our new residents, Mrs, Tane McGregor, of Seaforth, and Mr, Andrew Thiel, of Zur- ich. 0 Lutheran 'Church Visited by Volunteer Youth The young people of St. Peter's Lutheran Church took charge of the Sunday Service on their Youth Sunday. The volunteer choir sang "Let there be peace on earth - let it begin with me." The lessons starting with Ecclesiastes 12 - "Rememb- er they Creator in the days of thy youth"... "and followed by the epistle and gospel lessons of the day, were read by Paul Klopp, Lois Doerr, and Doris Webb. Donna Schilbe led and guided the congregation through the worship program and the main prayer was prayed by Daniel Schilbe. Christine Haberer was organist playing the liturgy and the congregational hymns. Special music was provided by Margaret Elligsen, of Broad- hagen who accompanied her- self by guitar and sang "Were you there when they crucified my Lord?" and "We shall over- come. " The sermon was given by Jack Saarela, of Don Mills, who is serving as a youthful volunteer worker among youth in the Synod of Eastern Canada. He is taking a year out from post -graduate studies for this purpose. On Saturday evening the young people were treated to a dinner by Group II of the Lutheran Church Women's organization. Following the dinner, singing was enjoyed along with hastily planned skits illustrative of real life relation- ships and acted out by the per- sons present. The visitors, Jack Saarela and Margaret Elligsen, took a lead in assigning the skit themes and in the singing. Jack announced also a Youth Congress to take place in Toronto during the school vacation this coming March. Both on Saturday and Sunday Mr. Saarela requested the young people to centre their lives around Christ and His Church and reminded them that they must not regard themselves too young to be useful in Christ- ian service, PAGE SEVEN Emmanuel U' Hear Various Reports At January Meeting In Church Emmanuel United Church Women, Zurich, held their January meeting on Wednesday, January 13, at 2:15 p.m., in the church basement. Mrs. George Bullock was in charge of the business which started with a poem "Kindness" follow- ed by prayer. Minutes of the last meeting were read and dur- ing the roll call members paid their membership dues for the coming year. The Good Cheer committee reported packing 25 boxes for the sick and shut-ins. Several thank -you notes were read and donations were received for the good cheer committee. Reports were given by Social Function convenors. It was dec- ided the flower committee will look after putting flowers in the church for special occasions. Some quilts were donated and shown. They will be quilted in Messengers Messengers of Emmanuel United Church, Zurich, held their January meeting, January 17, during the church hour. After a devotional period in the sanctuary, Messengers returned to the basement for their study period, A poster of symbols for each month of 1971 was displayed, January was the snowflakes. Barbara Bleck offered to bring. a heart for the poster for Febru- ary. The boys and girls will bring hearts for decoration. Pictures were shown to relate how various countries welcome the new year. She shared some thoughts for the New Year. followed by prayer. Mrs. Herb Desjardine read Psalm 91. The topic "The Feet of Jesus" was presented by Mrs. Claire Geiger, Mrs. Harvey Clausius, Mrs. Herb Desjardine and Mrs. Leroy O'Brien. Pam and Cindy O'Brien favoured with piano instrumentals.
