FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ONTARIO HYDRO'S 64 -year
history, steam (thermal) generation 'in 1970 represented more
than half its 121/2 million kilowatt capacity and commitment to
pollution abatement topped the $50 million mark. The multi-
billion dollar construction program underway must meet power
demands within the limits of environmental concern. A Hydro
task force such as the one (lower right) researches a new wet
scrubber process to remove sulphur dioxide before it enters stacks
of generating stations. Another control (extreme left) is the 700 -
foot stack built in 1970 at the R. L. Hearn plant to reduce

election of officers at a gen-
eral meeting on Sunday,
January 10, at Exeter Legion
Hall.
The following officers were
elected; past president, Norm-
