Miss Margaret Lamont, of
London, spent the weekend
at her home here.
Joseph Hagen, of Stanley, who
has spent the last few days at
Detroit, has returned to his
home.
Charles F. Hey, of Bad Axe,
Michigan, is visiting here with
friends and relatives.
Two local merchants. T.L.
Wurm and J. Gascho and Son
are holding merchandise sales.
Some exceptionally good barg-
ains are being offered and the
public should take advantage of
this sale before the supply is
gone.
Mrs. Alex Sparks, of Seaforth,
was the guest of Mrs. T. Wurm
last week.
The Zurich Athletic Society
are holding a carnival tonight
at the rink, Special arrange-
ments have been made to make
this an unusual event. Hand-
some prizes will be awarded.
If the weather is favourable, a
large crowd is anticipated.
The annual report of Hay
Township Farmers Mutual Fire
Insurance Company disclosed
that the Company has paid 27
claims during the past year,
this represented a total of $46,
075, 00.

At the Zurich Public School
meeting held in the school house
on Wednesday morning last, Mr.
Henry Clausius was elected as
trustee for a period of three
years.
Mr. Leonard Prang is taking
a course on motor, electrical
and automobile work, at the
Technical School, at London.
The course will take several
weeks, and will fit Mr. Prang
wonderfully for this line of work.
Mr. John Hey, Jr., had a
rather unfortunate sight in his
stable on Sunday morning when
he beheld that a rather valuable
horse had in some way got across
the stall with the result that the
tie rope became too short and
the unfortunate beast strangled
itself to death, in other words
hanged itself.
Rev. L. H. Kalbfleisch was
pleasantly surprised on the eve
of his birthday recently at the
parsonage, when St. James
Luther League presented Rev.
and Mrs. Kalbfleisch with a
silver flower basket and an ad-
dress.
Sony to report that Mr. Albert
Hendrick, of the Blue Water
Highway sustained the loss of
two more cattle which died
from the effects of poisoning

Miss Cecilia Hartman, daught-
er of lvir. and Mrs. Kuno Hart-
man, was taken to hospital in
London where an operation was
performed for appendicitis.
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Schrag
gave the Babylon Line farm form
a warm welcome'when they met
at the Schrag home last Monday
night.
William Haugh represented
Hay Township at County Council
in Goderich last week.
Miss Doreen Schilbe has taken
a position as saleslady in the
Variety store, operated by Mrs.
Ed Gascho.
Mrs. Peter Koehler has sold
the westerly portion of her
property, located on the corner
of Victoria and Louise streets, to
Earl Thiel,
Laird Thiel is spending a few
days at London this week.
Noah Sararas, of Kitchener,
is visiting friends here at pres-
ent. He stayed with his sister,
Mrs. Conrad Siemon.
Butter is selling for 38 cents
per pound on the local market.
Mrs. Walter Eckel and twin
babies have returned to her
home on the Goshen North.

On Sunday, January 1, the
Webb family held their annual
New Year's reunion at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Max Turnbull,
of the Blue Water Highway.
Huron County again led Ont-
ario in the production of mixed
grain and barley, provincial
figures on crop production for
1955 reveal.
Requiem High Mass for Mrs.
Joseph Gelinas, 69, who died at
her home in Zurich on January 4,
was sung Saturday in St. Boniface
Roman Catholic Church, Zurich.
With a flip of a coin, a new
trustee was made in Bayfield
the other night, when that pol-
ice village held it's second nom-
ination meeting. J. Howard will
serve on the board.
Real cold mid -winter weather
greeted these parts over the
weekend with the mercury drop-
ping down to around the zero
mark. This was followed by a
real January thaw which is in
progress today.
Robert Johnston, Ed Deichert,
of Zurich and Carl Gingerich,
of London, left on Monday to
attend a study course in a trade
school in Toronto. We wish the
boys every success in their new
undertaking.

Mr. Herb Uttley was the
lucky winner of a large basket
of groceries at Doerr's Superior
Store last Saturday. The draw
was held in conjuction with
Doerr's get -acquainted sale.
Members of the Zurich Lions
Club, on Wednesday afternoon,
staged a work bee at the closed
school on the Bronson Line,
and converted the building into
temporary living quarters for
the Elzar B. Masse family, who
lost their home and all their
belongings in a bad fire a week
ago Sunday.
Tonight, January 19 at eight
o'clock will mark the official
opening of the Dominion Hotel

There were a lot of snow-
mobiles in the area last'week-
end despite the lack of snow.
Unfortunately not many of them
got off their trailors. To all of
you, winter sport enthusiasts,
we would just like to inform
you that so far this week, we
have been getting a bit more
snow, so come on back for
another try.
Dr. and Mrs. Bruce Eicluneier
and family of Hamilton, spent
the weekend at their cottage
along the Bluewater.
Roberta Hogg returned home
on the weekend from St. Joseph
which has recently become
fully licenced and remodeled.
The South Huron District High
School Board are expected to
report a surplus of about $30, 000
in its capital account after pay-
ments are completed for the
addition which was built last
year, secretary E.D. Howey
reported at the inaugural meet-
ing which was held last Tuesday
night.
Ivan Forsythe, 57 year-old
Tuckersmith Township Farmer
was elected warden of Huron
County at a close fought contest
at Goderich on Tuesday.

on spent the weekend with her
mother Mrs, Pauline Jeffrey
in Blake while her daughter
Annie, spent the weekend at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dom
inic Jeffrey.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Siemon,
of Zurich held a dinner for fam-
ily and relatives on Sunday
afternoon. Attending at the
dinner were Mr. and Mrs, Dom-
inic Jeffrey, St. Joseph, Mr.
and Mrs. Raymond Jeffrey, of
London, Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Siemon, of Goderich, Mr. and
Mrs. Daryl Rau, St. Joseph,
Mrs. Juliet Denomme, Zurich,
and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rau, of
Seaforth.
Mr. and Mrs, Franklin Cor-
riveau, of Windsor, spent last
weekend visiting Mr. and Mrs,
Charlie Rau, of the Bluewater.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bedard,
of Detroit spent last weekend
at their cottage at Bayview.
Miss Linda Jeffrey, of London
visited her parents Mr. and
Mrs. Dominic Jeffrey last week-
end.
