Mr. Lloyd Kalbfleisch, who is
attending the Waterloo seminary
is spending his holidays here.
Mr. and Mrs. William O'Brien
returned on Saturday evening
from a pleasant week's visit with
relatives in Detroit.
Mrs. George Brock, and daught-
er Olive, visited relatives in the
village last week.
Hay Council will hold it's first
meeting of 1921 on Monday, Jan-
uary 10.
Mr. Zinn, of Montana, is visit-
ing at the home of his grandmoth-
er, Mrs. M. Kaercher.
Mr. Leonard Hudson, of Seaforth
spent the last week with his friend
Whitney Brokenshire.
Jacob Ort, of Detroit, is at pres-
ent visiting his sister, Ivlrs. M.
Melick.
Mr. C. Greb, a former resident
of Zurich, has been elected as
mayor, of Kitchener.
Miss Lila Melick returned to
Clinton to finish her course at
business college.

Watch Night will be observed
in the Evangelical church on
Wednesday evening, when a suit-
able program will be rendered.
Mr. and Mrs. J, E. Hamilton
and Miss Doris Craig, of Windsor,
visited with Mrs. Hamilton's par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Gaister
over Christmas, and the two lad-
ies remained over for a week.
The public will kindly take
notice that beginning next week
the stores in Zurich will be closed
every Tuesday evening for the
months of January, February and
March, after which they will ag-
ain remain open on that evening
for the convenience of the public.
The nomination for Police
Trustee of Zurich on Monday
evening was only fairly well
attended and there was little on
the program for discussion. The
following were nominated for
the 1931 Board, Jos. Geiger, C.
Schilbe, Ed Datars, Sr. , R.F.
Stade, William Lamont, William
Meidinger, W. S. Ruby, Ward
Fritz, Ed Haberer. Only three
qualified namely C. Schilbe, J.
Geiger, Ed Haberer, who will
constitute the 1931 board.

The men and women who have
served their country during the
past six years were honoured at
a Welcome Home Banquet, held
in Zurich December 27. Speakers
at the occasion were William
Haugh, reeve of Hay Township,
the clergymen of the various
churches in Zurich; Oscar Klopp
and Albert Kalbfleisch who was
also chairman for the occasion.
Harold Stade, on behalf of the
servicemen and women, thanked
the ratepayers for the recognition
shown the armed services.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stade
spent Christmas at the home of
the latter's parents, at Ettrick.
Mr. and Mrs. Bryce Mack,
bridal couple, were New Year's
visitors at the former's parents at
Crediton.
Mr. and Mrs. Elam Shantz and
family, of New Hamburg, have
moved their effects to the farm
in Hay Township, owned by Sam

The Unique Farm Forum met
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Delbert Geiger on January 2 with
25 members present to discuss the
topic "New Canadians" with
Bert Klopp leading the discussion,
A pretty wedding took place at
the St. Jacobs Mennonite church
on Saturday, December 24, when
Laura Martin of Waterloo and
Milo Shantz were united in mar-
riage at a candelight service.
Mr, and Mrs. Henry Adkins, of
near Hensall and son Stewart of
Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, elect-
rician in the Airforce in that city,
were recent guests at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Baker near
Hillsgreen.
Dr. and Mrs. Fred Hess and
family, of Toronto, were holiday
visitors with the former's mother,
Mrs. A.F. Hess, of town.
Mr. 13amor Well, a chemist of
Montreal spent the weekend in
town attending the funeral of his
sister, the late Ida Well, on Sat-
urday.
Mrs, William Mason of Dash-
wood who died suddenly on Fri-
day, December 23, in St. Joseph'
Hospital, London, was the former
Almina Hutchinson of Biddulph
Township.
Misses Gertrude and Lovina
Schade, of London were Christ-
mas visitors at the home of their
brothers Mr. and Mrs. Clarence
Schade of the 14th concession artd
Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Schade, Dash-
wood.

A New Year's Day family re-
union dinner was held at the
home of Mr. and Mrs, Dominic
Jeffrey with all their twelve
children and their families in
attendance. As well, Mrs. Jef-
frey's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Siemon, of Zurich, and Mr.
Jeffrey's mother, Mrs, Sara Jef-
frey, and Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Hogg and family were also guests.
Mr. and Mrs. John Denomme
and family, of Tecumseh, visit-
ed Mr. and Mrs. Garfield Den-
omme during the holidays.
Roberta Hogg is a patient in
St, Joseph's Hospital, London.
We are pleased to report that
Mrs. Geraldine Charrette who wa:
a patient in South lluron Hospital.
Exeter, over the holidays return -
Plans of the government to turn
the Pinery Provincial Park area
into a winter playground have
been proceeding gradually, and
have met with public approval,
said C . E, Jones M. P. P, Lambton
East, last Thursday. "Ski -runs, "
said Mr. Jones, "have already
been constructed and are being
used by sports enthusiasts.
Ratepayers of the Zurich Sep-
arate School elected six people
to serve as a board for the coming
year, when they voted on Wednes-
day, January 4-. Leading the polls
at Wednesday's election was
Mozart Gelinas, with 67 votes.
Following him carne Louis Far-
well with 64 votes, Leo Meiding-
er, 62, Mrs. Theresa Pearson,
58, Joseph Denomme, 49, and
Alphonse Grenier 43.
Mrs. James Bonthron, formerly
cf Hensall, passed away suddenly

Miss Louise Talbot, who has
been with Mutual Life Insurance
Co., in Kitchener, for about a
year and a half, commenced work

London spent a week over the
holidays visiting Mr. and Mrs.

REDUCTION
POGAM
The 1970 Farm Tax Reduction Program is the most recent
phase in the Government of Ontario's long-term plan to reform
the system of local taxation in this province.
This program will help farm property owners to pay their
municipal and education taxes.
Farm property owners will receive $20,000,000 in special
assistance from the Government of Ontario. This amounts to
25 percent of the net municipal taxes on eligible
farm property.
To be eligible, the property owner must live in Ontario. Also,
if the farm property is Tess than 11 acres, it must have yielded
$2,000 or more in gross income during the year.
Cheques and information leaflets are being mailed out by the
Department of Municipal Affairs to every eligible farm owner.
