May every good thing come your
way,
May all your dreams come true.
This is what I ask for...
My Christmas wish for you.
And so by the time you read
our next, column, Christmas will
have come and gone, and we
will be into the New Year.
On Tuesday evening, the
Christmas party was held for the
Residents. Mr. and Mrs. Pieter
Vos, and daughter, Johanna, of
Kitchener provided the program.
Early in the evening Mrs. Carol
Dietz and her group of Girl Guide
came to the Home as they have
religiously done for the past five
Christmas', bringing their own
tree, singing carols and decorat-
ing the tree with decorations
and lights which they have made
and bought since the Home was
fust opened, as well as providing
treats for the residents. This
year instead of an individual
gift for each resident, they are
sponsoring film night once a
week for the whole month of
January. We know the residents
would wish to thank them sincer-
ely for their generosity, and for
the pleasure they will derive
from these films. Their part•of
the program was concluded by
an excercise by the majorettes.
I feel Mrs. Dietz deserves a vote
of thanks for remembering the
. at B W R H
residents year after year.
During the next part of the
program, Miss Johanna Vos,
accompanied on the piano by hei
father, sang beautifully for the
residents. Mr. Vos, a native of
Holland, 'spoke to the residents
on his trip back home and his
pilgrimage to Bethlehem and
the Holy Land. Between musical
numbers, films were shown of
"Christmas on Grandfather's Farrn,
A Walt Disney cartoon, " and
"Silent Night,•" the story of how
this carol came to he composed.
All of these films were in colour
which makes them more enjoy-
able.
At the close of the program,
the lucky draws were made. The
first ticket was drawn by Mr. Vos
and he drew #1485 and the winner
of the electric deep fryer was
Mr. William McGraw, Seaforth.
The second draw was made by
Mrs. Jennetta Finnigan, and the
winner of the portable water
cooler was C. Turcan, R. R.1,
Dashwood. We have been unable
to locate this party, and a letter
addressed to this person was ret-
urned unknown. If any of our
readers know of this person, please.
notify us so that we can have him
pick up this prize. The third
ticket was drawn by Mrs. Ellen
Boyes. The portable mixer went
to Mrs. Clara Jackson, St. Marys.

We wish to thank the public for
making thisproject such a success
and to Ivlr. Edwin Gardiner for
working so hard on the ticket sales
We have realized enough money
from this draw to purchase the
movie screen and have a speaker
system installed in the dining
room where most of our programs
are presented. The balance of
the money will be used for the
enjoyment of the residents, a
specific purpose has not been
decided upon as yet. Following
the draw, Mrs. Ellen Boyes, on
behalf of the residents, presented
Mx. and Mrs, Risi with an envel-
ope of money. Miss Mae Hodgins,
one of our dear little ladies of
92 years, graciously thanked Mr.
and Mrs. Rufus Turnbull for spon-
soring the films for the past three
months, and Mrs. Horn and Mrs.
Corriveau for their patience and
understanding during the year.
Mrs. Horn and staff provided
refreshments, complete with all
the Christmas goodies.
We wish to thank Ilurondale
Dairy for the beautiful potted
pointsetta which graces our
sitting room, and to the members
of the Catholic Women's League
for the case of tangerines which
we know the residents will enjoy.
On Friday afternoon the child-
ren of St. Boniface School pres-
ented their Christmas program
for the residents. The residents
enjoy having the children very
much, and I believe the Child-
ren enjoy the outing as well. We
would like to thank the Sisters
and teachers in charge for taking
time out to visit the home.
From all of us here, to all of
you out there, A Merry Christ-
mas and A Happy New Year.

In Germany
A procession which blends
pagan and Christmas cus-
toms is part of the legend
and lore of the holiday in
Ruppin, Germany. A rider on
a white horse, symbolizing
the horse of the pagan god
Wotan, leads the parade. He
is followed by Father Christ-
mas, who is decked with rib-
bons and carries candy and
fruit.

CHRISTMAS EDITION, 1970
Legend, Lore Of
Holiday Takes
Varied Forms
The belief that Santa has
a reindeer -drawn sleigh and
enters homes through the
chimney may have come
from Scandinavia. An old
Norse legend about the god-
dess Hertha said that she
rode on a reindeer's back.
Her appearance in the fire-
place in mid -winter was
thought to bring good luck
to the home.
At Christmas, a special prayer:
May mankind be blessed with "Peace on
Earth." And a special wish: May
your personal Christmas be a most happy one.
