Entertain Guests
From Zurich
A soul -stirring Christmas meet-
ing of Hensall United Church
took place on Monday, Decemb-
er 14, in the beautifully decorat-
ed church, when they had as
their guests the U.C.W. of Zur-
ich. The meeting was hosted by
Mrs. Earl Rowe, Mrs. Russell
Errat, Mrs. Eric Luther, Mrs.
Laird Mickle and was conducted
by the president, Mrs. Vern
Alderdice and her very talented
and inspired co-worker, Mrs.
Rodger Venner.
A Christmas tableau was pres-
ented with Mrs. Harry Hoy and
Mrs. Howard Scane doing the
commentary. It featured the
Shepherds, Mrs. Harold Currie,
Mrs. David Kyle, Mrs. Edison
Forrest; the wise men, Mrs.
Robert Cook, Mrs. Blackwell,
and Mrs. William Mickle;
Joseph, Mrs. Jack Drysdale,
Mary, Mrs. Ron Wareing.
Mrs. Rodger Venner read the
scripture and the prayers given
by Mrs. Venner and Mrs. Alder -
dice were taken from Margery
Homes "Prayer of a Housewife."
Musical numbers for the evening
were given by the U.C. W . sex-
tette comprised of Miss Mary
Goodwin, Mrs. Ron Mock, Mrs.
Cecil Pepper, Mrs. Robert Rea -
burn, Mrs. J, C. Goddard, Mrs.
Carl Passmore with Mrs. Will-
iam Fuss playing the accompan-
ient.
Mrs. Laird Mickle presented
a medley of sacred songs ori the
piano and the carol singing
throughout the tableau and the
program, with Mrs. Fuss at the
organ.
The offering was taken by
Mrs. Earl Rowe and Mrs. Errat.
Mrs. James McAllister, on be-
half of the U.C.W. presented
the retiring president, Mrs. Vern
Alderdice with a life member-
ship in the U . C . W , and present-
ed her with her pin.

Dr. Stewart concluded by
saying that the leaders of the
world have been the engineer
and technician, and the man
who is to count now is the one
who looks ahead and asks these
people to drive us in that direct-
ion. "We can't wait until to-
morrow, " he added, "the man
who will succeed is the man who
is ready when tomorrow comes, "
The guest speaker was introd-
uced by Douglas Armstrong,
chairman of the program commit
tee, who served as master of
ceremonies for the occasion,
and thanked by Harold Soper.
A group of girls consisting of
Carol Gingerich, Mary Ellen
Gingerich, Norma Shantz, Nancy
Shantz and Cheryl Clausius,
sang several numbers for the
gathering, and a moment of
silence was observed in memory
of the late William McAdams,
who served many years as treas-
urer of the organization.
. A toast to the ladies was prop-
osed by Doug Armstrong, and
replied to by Mrs. Robert West-
lake.
Lucky draws were won by Mrs.
Gerald Gingerich, Mrs. Lee
Willer, Mrs. Len Erb, Dr.
Stewart, Mrs. Ken Gingerich,
Mrs. Harold Soper, Mrs. Bill
Slyfeld, Mrs. Herb Turkheim,
Mrs. C. J. Wallace and Mrs.
Leroy Thiel.
About 85 persons attended the
annual event.
