Legion Auxiliary
Makes Donations
First vice-president, Mrs.
Howard Smale chaired the Christ
mas meeting of the Legion Ladle
Auxiliary, Tuesday evening,
when an application for a new
member was accepted. Donat-
ions were approved to; the
Christmas tree fund for the child-
ren of Hensall and community;
Hensall Branch of the Canadian
Legion; and Teen Town.
The Auxiliary will send Christ-
mas boxes to veterans at West -
minister Hospital; and shut-in
members, and will entertain
children of the Legion and Aux-
iliary to a Christmas party, Sun-
day, December 13. They will
also sponsor a hockey team in
conjunction with the Legion,
and will cater to two banquets
this month.
The group also made plans
for a New Year's Eve dance.
Mrs. J. Chalmers won the
guessing prize; the mystery,
attendance, and special Christ-
mas draw prizes were won by
Mrs. Grant Bisback. Bingo was
enjoyed and a delicious Christ-
mas lunch was served, convened
by Mrs. Clarence Reid. During
lunch hour members exchanged
gifts. Christmas emblems dec-
orated the hall.

Varna District
The members of L.O.L.1035
entertained their wives and fam-
ilies last Friday evening in the
Orange hall. After a bounteous
ham and turkey supper, Mrs.
William Parker, of Bayfield
showed slides of her recent trip
to England and Scotland, which
was much enjoyed.
The Explorer group met in the
church with Miss Cathy Taylor
in charge. Janis Webster read
the scripture lesson followed by
prayer by Sandra Webster. Miss
Sylvia Wilson read the minutes
and the roll call was answered
by naming an article they would
like for Christmas. Janis Webster
took up the offering and it was
dedicated by Anne Marie Heard.
The treasurer's report was given
by Tanis Chuter. One visitor
was present, Miss Landa Visschen
Miss Cathy Taylor had charge
of the Study Book and afterwards
closed the meeting.
The choirs of Goshen and Var-
na are busy practising a Cantata
to be presented on Christmas
Sunday.
Mrs. Harvey Coleman is at
present a patient in St. Joseph
Hospital, London.

Unit IV of United Church
Women held their Christmas
meeting, December 3, with
26 members present and two
visitors.
Mrs. James McAllister opened
the meeting with thoughts about

stars, with reference to the Star
of Bethlehem. Mrs. Harold Cur-
rie told the Christmas story, as-
sisted by Mrs. Gordon Love
reading from the scriptures, and
Mrs. Laird Mickle at the piano.
Many Christmas carols were sung
throughout.
Mrs. Eric Luther taught the
group a new song and conducted
a Bible quiz. Reports were given
by the treasurer and the chair-

man of the social assistance
group.
Many visits to sick and shut-in:
were reported. All the members
were reminded of the gifts for
the Queensway nursing home,
and asked to bring them to the
general meeting on December
14.
The meeting closed with the
singing of Hymn 47, followed by
a Christmas prayer.
