of the New Liskeard College of
Agricultural Technology.
Mr. Butler also showed slides
which proved to be of great inter-
est to the gathering. I le pointed
out that of 152 trillion acres of
land in northern Ontario, there
is presently about 470, 000 acres
being worked as farm land. Ac-
cording to the speaker, the grow-
ing season in northern Ontario
is short but good. l -le added that
the season runs from about May
10 to August 20, depending on
they type of crops.
The speaker went on to say
that the land is mostly clay, and
drainage is the big problem. The
best crops are forages and cereal
grains. Dairy cattle is the big-
gest operation in the livestock
department, he added.
Bob Broadfoot, president of
the Soil and Crop group, was
the chairman for the meeting
part of the evening. He outlined
various programs which were
carried out by the organization
during the past year.
Greetings were brought to the
gathering by James I layter, reeve
