Hensall, United Church Women
Elect Officers For Coming Year
The annual meeting of the
United Church Women of Hen-
sall United Church was held
November 23, in the Fellowship
Hall chaired by Mrs. Verne
Alderdice who opened the meet-
ing with a poem "Listen to the
voice of God, " followed by
prayer. It is no secret, was sung
in unison and Mrs, Sim Roobol
gave the Devotional "The Bible

report was given in the form of
a skit by Mesdames Rowe, Alder -

ner and dedicated by the presid-
ent. Mrs. David Kyle brought
in the report of the nominating

The president read "Don't
Quit" the new president Mrs.
Earl Rowe spoke briefly. "Some-
thing to sing about" was sung
and a contest was enjoyed fol-
lowing which Bill Gibson showed
pictures of his tour of Australia,
New Zealand, England and the
Continent. IIe concluded by
saying that he had a wonderful
tour, had seen many beautiful
countries and met many fine
people, but Ilensall and the
Hensall people could not be
beaten. 1 -le is returning to Ilen-
sall shortly. Lunch was served
by the executive.
Number Of
Active Apprentices
On Increase
The number of active apprent-
ices registered with the Ontario
Department of Labour increased
to 18, 291 during October. This
was 203 more than the previous
month and 622 over October, 19-
69.
Currently 2, 103 of the apprent•
ices registered and are taking
courses at provincial trade
schools.
During the month, 696 new
apprentices registered in the
various trades recognized by
the branch for apprentice train-
ing programs, while 298 compl-
eted their apprenticeship and.
received certificates,
During the past year, a total
of 6, 582 new apprentices were
enrolled and 3, 488 graduated
from the program.
In other manpower training
programs sponsored by the Dep-
artment's Industrial Training
Branch, 2, 093 are taking on-
the-job training in short term
projects carried out with the
assistance of industry.
In October, 649 persons ent-
ered the short-term training
programs while 715 completed
their projects
