50 Years Ago
Robert Williams, who has
been in Zurich for a number of
years, recently left for Quebec,
where he intends to make his
home,
F, C, Kalbfleisch attended the
flax manufacturer's convention
in London this week,
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Oesch
have taken up housekeeping in
the house purchased by Mrs. I.
Geiger. This was formerly the
property of William Meidinger.
Mrs. W C. Wagner was on a
business trip to London this week,
Trefle Laporte, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Laporte, Sauble
Line, underwent a serious operat-
ion for appendicitis last week.
The operation was performed by
Dr. MacKinnon and Dr. O'Dwyer
Tohn I-tey received a painful
injury to his foot, and sprained
his ankle, last week. He was let-
ting the wagon out of the barn at
the time of the accident.
Miss Florence West, of London,
was visiting her friend, Miss
Elva Iieyrock, over this past
weekend.

Mr. and Mrs, Fred Turner and
son Grant, of Goderich, were
Sunday visitors with friends in
Zurich.
Mr. and Mrs. William F.
Braun and two sons, of Forest,
were Monday visitors at the
home of William Lamont.
Alvin Gascho, of Kitchener,
visited with his parents over the
weekend.
Mr, and Mrs. Urban Pfile, of
the 14th concession, Hay; Mr.
and Mrs. Garnet Tacobe, of the
Parr Line, were Sunday visitors
with friends at Listowel.
Mr. and Mrs. A. Galloway
and daughter Elora, of Toronto;
Mrs. Gibson and daughter; Mrs.
Martin and her daughter Marion,
all of Stratford, were Sunday
visitors at the home of Mrs. E.
Eilber. Mrs. Gibson will visit
with Mrs. Eilber for some time.
Myrvin Steckle was a Thursday
visitor with friends at Ingersoll.
John Deichert was a Sunday
visitor to Kitchener and other
points.
Gerald Bedard, who is teach-
ing at Toronto, spent the week-
end with his parents here.

Milfred Doerr and his sisters,
Edith and Alma, of Laird, Sask-
atchewan, were visitors at the
home of Mr, and Mrs. Elmore
Thiel.
Mr, and Mrs, William Dinnin
and family, of Hensall, visited
at the home of Mr, and Mrs,
Victor Dinnin, and their new
baby son, "Billie."
The many friends of Mr, Con-
rad Schilbe, will be pleased to
learn that he has returned home
from the hospital, and is progres-
sing favourably after his accident.
Mr. and Mrs, Henry Steinbach
and Mr, and Mrs. Ted Steinbach,
accompanied by Mrs. Emily
Fuss, visited in Windsor over the
weekend. .
Mrs. Elmore Thiel and Mr, and
Mrs. Harold Thiel, recently from
the west, were at Hyde Park, on
Sunday where they visited with
Mr. and Mrs, Russell Pitt.
Mr. and Mrs, Philip Hartman
and family, of the Bronson Line,
Mrs. N. Dietrich, Betty, Eugene,
and Herbert Dietrich spent Sun-

The Zurich and district hunters
who journeyed up to Manitoulin
Island for the annual deer hunt
have arrived home and were
well compensated for their efforts
as we understand they came home
with seven deer, and if they
averaged around 200 pounds each,
which is a fair weight, that would
mean about 1400 pounds of deer.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Bedard,
of Toronto, were weekend visitors
at the home of the former's moth-
er.
Miss Arlene 1-•laberer and Ren-
ona Watson, of Western Univer-
sity, London, spent the weekend
with Mr. and Mrs. Ferd 1-Iaberer.
Mr. and Mrs. Tames Hackett
and daughter Linda, of St. Cath-
arines, were weekend visitors at
the home of their parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Ted Steinbach.

Work is to begin this week on
the $19, '700 post office in the
village of Zurich, according to
rohn B. Erb, Wellesley, who has
been awarded the contract for
the construction of the new build-
ing.
Nominations for the village of
Zurich will take place in the
Township Hall, on Friday, Nov-
ember 25, from seven to eight
o'clock in the evening.
At their meeting last Thursday
night the Hay Township School
Area Board approved the plans
of Donald L. O'Brien, principal
of the Zurich school for the org-
anization of a safety patrol at
the. intersection of Highway 84.
Mrs. Earl Heywood and Grant,
visited over the weekend at the
home of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. William Thiel.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Sararas,
of Waterloo, were weekend vis-
itors with the former's mother,
Mrs. Adeline Sararas.

Zurich UCW
The November meeting of the
Zurich United Church Women
held on Thursday, November 12,
at 8 o'clock in the church base-
ment. The convenor, Mrs. R.
Grainger opened the meeting by
singing "The Name of Jesus."
Mrs. C. Geiger read some
thoughts for Remembrance Day,
followed by a prayer. Mrs. G.
Bullock and Mrs. W. Neeb sang
a duet accompanied by Mrs. M.
Steckle. Mrs. Mary Hey led in
prayer, The offering was taken
by Mrs. Mary Hey and Mrs.
Urban Pfile.
Mrs. R. Grainger introduced
the guest speaker, Captain Mrs.
McCune, of the Salvation Army,
Goderich. Mrs. McCune gave
an interesting talk on the history
of the Salvation Army.
Mrs. Don O'Brien and Mrs.
Wayne Horner favored with a duet
accompanied by Mrs. Milton
Oesch. After the business session
a fellowship and lunch hour was
enjoyed.

Obituary
MRS. WILLIAM DECKER
A highly respected resident .of
the community for many years,
Mrs. William Decker, of Zurich
passed away in South iluron
Hospital, on Thursday, Novem-
ber 12. She was in her '77th year.
Born in Stephen Township on
October 25, 1894, she was the
former Violet Susanna Gaiser, a
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Frederick Gaiser.
Before retiring to the village
some years ago, Mr. and Mrs.
Decker farmed just outside Zur-
ich, on highway 84.
Surviving besides her husband
are one son Karl, R. R.1, Zurich;
one sister, Mrs. Ferd (Alice)
Haberer, Zurich; one brother,
Lloyd, of Crediton; and six
grandchildren. •
The body rested at the West-
lake funeral home, Zurich, until
Sunday afternoon, November 15,
when the funeral service was held
in St. Peter's Lutheran Church,
conducted by Rev. A.C. Black-
well. Interment was in St. Peter's
Lutheran Cemetery, Goshen Line.
Pallbearers were Wayne, Brian
Randy and Timothy Decker,
Richard Gaiser and Arn Meyer.

HENSALL KINETTES
The Kinette Club of Hensall
held their meeting at the home
of Mrs. William Fuss, who wel-
comed two guests, Mrs, Sharon
Hoffman and Mrs, Mark Garrett.
Mrs. Ian McCallum was present-
ed with a Kinette Pin and Kin-
ette by-laws.
It was decided to have the
annual shut-ins visits Sunday,
December 6, and on December

9, the Kinettes will journey to
the Pyschiatric Hospital, at God-
erich to assist the Kinsmen in
entertaining the patients there.
A donation was given to the
Teen Agers to help establish a
Teen -Town in Hensall.
Mrs. Garret, of Bayfield dem-
onstrated liquid embroidery paint-
ing which made a very interest-
ing meeting.
