ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS.
Letters to Editor
RATEPAYERS OF ZURICH:
I am writing this article as an
appeal to all citizens of Zurich
to attend nomination on Novem-
ber 23, 1970. I assume that most
everyone in this village is aware
of the proposed water and sewage
plans, by the articles in last
week's paper, as well as the com-
pulsory articlein this issue.
The sewage begins from a re-
port in 1965, Water Pollution
Survey, made by the 0.W . R, C , ,
and the water proposal originates
from 1967 when our demands for
water were exceeding the pres-
ent distribution system. Although
in both cases there will be a
public meeting for those who wish
to disagree with these plans, it
is unlikely that this would be
called prior to nomination in
this village. It is with this in
mind that I feel our people should
have an opportunity to consider
the action taken by this council
to date, and to choose a change
of administration, if it is their
wish.
My personal opinion is that if,
and I mean if, these proposals
are adopted, it could cause an
additional burden on our people,
especially when one considers
the retired pensioner and many

who may find the cost of pres-
ent services expensive enough,
in relation to income. Villages
of our size, and I suppose larger,
are finding it more and more
difficult to survive, for I suppose
obvious reasons. Many of our
young people must leave for
employment in larger centres and
many of our married people use
a village such as ours as a place
to reside and not work. This nat-
urally allows only residential
assessment and little income from
industry.
The village must provide ess-
ential services such as water,
electricity, recreation and maint-
ain all streets, parks, etc. As
reeve of your village, through
County Council, Regional Cons-
ultants and Planning Boards, I am
constantly subjected to the prop-
osed changes in municipal struct-
ure and find that many studies
indicate that a village of less
than 1, 000 people is possibly
considered an unworkable unit.
I would suppose that when one
studies this situation from a re-
mote point on a purely econom-
ical basis, it niay be true. How-
ever, the survival of this village
is of prime importance to its
people, who reside, work, play
or retire here. No one, no mat-
ter what category he may belong,
wants a ghost town or one that
can no longer pay its way, or
have their representatives on
council succumb to the suggest-
ion that Zurich must eventually
lose it's identity,
Many, many, organizations,
service clubs and dedicated
people have made this a comf-
ortable and prosperous village in
the past. Let us continue to be
interested in it's present and it's
future.
My concern is that we attend
nomination meeting and support
those who would be willing to
devote time and those who be-
lieve that our municipality must
meet the Planners, Consultants
and Regional Development and
prove that while we are willing tc
update municipal structures, ser-
vices, etc. -- we still believe
in Zurich and our prime respons-

To the People of Huron County;
An extended program of activ-
ities for the residents at Huron-
view is being inaugurated and
we are very encouraged by the
interest shown.
With over 250 residents, many
of whom need assistance to take
part in the various activities, we
find that the staff can not always
give the assistance required, in
addition to their regular duties.
To assure that the residents will
be able to take part in all the
activities in which they are int-
erested, we need the help of sev-
eral volunteers,
Some of our residents, as well
as other people in the community
are already helping in various
ways on an individual basis, in
addition to volunteer groups who
regularly look after projects such
as the monthly birthday party and
put on entertainments.
If you have taken part in these
activities, we would like to say,
"Thank-` ou." If not, and you
would like to help us with our
programs or by assisting our craft
supervisor we would be very
pleased to hear from you. Just
call Clinton, 482-3451 and leave
your name, address and telephone
number, or contact Mr. Bob
Taylor or myself.
Don't let the fact that you
would only be able to spare a
small amount of time stop you.
A half day a week or even every
other week would be much ap-
preciated. I am sure that those
who give of their time to make

the lives of these older Huron
people more pleasant, will find
it a very rewarding experience.
Sincerely,
