Hensall Young People Organize
Teen. Town to Sponsor Activities
(by Martha Rooseboom)
Whats there to do? Its so boring
here, those were the thoughts
going through our minds one day.
Every week end we have to leave
town to have some fun.
We decided to put a stop to all
this. We, the Teen-Agers of
Hensall needed and wanted a
Teen Town. We think its about
time there is something for the
Teenagers of Hensall to do in
Hensall. First we have to thank
Mr. and Mrs. Garfield Broderick
for giving us the use of their home
for our sometimes long meetings.
Officers elected are, president,
Bill Cameron; vice -residents,
Doug Mock, treasurer, Allan
Bisback; secretary, Martha Roose-
boom. Members are Kay Davis,
Anne Keys, Kathy Fuss, Karen
Broderick, Joe Vanstone, Keith
Harburn.
To raise money for our first
ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS
dance we went canvassing through
out the town. We would like to
express our appreciation and
gratitude to the people and bus-
inesses who were so kind as to
donate. We have also decided
to collect beverage bottles and
we ask if anyone has returnable
bottles to give them to any
members.
Our first dance will be Nov-
ember 27. The band will later
be posted. Any teen, 15 years or
over, interested in assisting Anne
Keys on various committees,
please meet in the town hall,
Thursday at 7: 30 p.m.
If all goes well, we plan to
have a dance every other week-
end. We hope that all goes well
and hope you have the same
thoughts. After all, how can
anything be a success if you
don't have the faith of the public.
Christmas Trees
Buying a Christmas tree can
be fun or - it can be frustrating.
Although official grades for
Christmas trees in Ontario are
laid down under the Ontario
Department of Agriculture and
Food's Farm Products Grades and
Sales Act, very few vendors use
them. Thus the buyer must judge
the size, shape and quality of
the tree carefully.
A tree has four faces or sides.
A top quality tree will have four
faces free from defects; the next
grade, three faces free from de-
fects, and so on. If a tree is to
be set up in a corner, two faces
free from defects will be satis-
factory, and presumably the
cost of this lower grade tree will
be less.
Avoid a tree with a crooked
trunk; it's impossible to set up
a crooked tree properly. Large
bare spaces between branches,
and other defects will spoil the
appearance of the tree.
A tree should be bought as
late as possible to ensure its
freshness, as long as there is a
reasonable selction available.
However, earlier purchase may
be necessary to get a well -shap-
ed tree.
It is important to use a stand
that holds water. Water should
be kept in the stand all the time
the tree is up, To allow for bet-
ter absorption of water, saw a
half-inch off the butt of the tree
before putting it in the stand,

•television set, or other source
of heat.
