STE. MARIE FOOTBALL TEAM - An interesting football match took place last Wednesday at
Ste. Marie School, St. Joseph, between that school and the boys from Our Lady of Mt Carmel
School. Even though the St. Joseph team came out on the short end of the score, they were proud
of the showing they made in their first attempt. Members of the team are shown here with their
coach.
Farmer Residents Married 50 Years
Mr, and Mrs. Lawrence Den-
omme, Clinton, celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary, with
a reception for friends, neigh-
bours and relatives, followed by
a dance at the Royal Canadian
Legion Hall.
On Sunday, a special mass was
celebrated for them at St. Jos-
eph's Roman Catholic Church
where they have been active
members for 34 years.
Natives of Zurich, Mr. and
Mrs. Denomme were married at
St Peter's Church near Zurich on
October 24, 1920. They recall
that two days before their wed-
ding, fire destroyed the main
altar in the church. However,
by the time of the ceremony, an
altar had been erected for the
occasion.
Mr. Denomme is the son of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Philip
Denomme. His wife, the former
Verda Rau, is a daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rau.
She is a sister of Canada's High
Commissioner to Trinidad, Ger-
ald Rau.
After living in Zurich for 16
years, the couple moved to Clint
on where Mr. Denomme has
been employed as head custodian
at Central Huron Secondary
School. Affectionately known
as "SAM" by students from as
far back as 1936, Mr. Denomme
first worked for Clinton Colleg-
iate Institute board which later
broadened out to become Clinton
and District Collegiate Institute
board.
The couple has five sons and
three daughters; John, Hamilton;
Clarence, who is a member of
Clinton Town Council; Francis,
North Bay; Wilfred and Donald,
both of Goderich; Mrs. Glen
(Geraldine) Malton, Nitawin,
Sask.; Mrs, Colin (Cecelia)
McNeil, Clinton; and Mrs. Eric
(Bernice) Moore, Goderich.
There are 33 grandchildren and
three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Denomme has eight
brothers and three sisters and
Mrs. Denomme has four brothers
and three sisters. A family re-
union, with the whole family
attending, was held recently at
Canadian Forces Base, Clinton.
