Says Area Manager Walter Palmer, "Our service group should be in the centre by late November, And we expect to move the rest of the staff early in the new year. " Ontario Hydro bought the build, ing from the Department of Nat- ional Defence last July for $70, 000. Along with the supply build- ing, Hydro acquired 3.44 acres of land which is to be used for storing vehicles and other equip- ment. Larger facilities for Clinton Area became necessary after it was amalgamated with Exeter Area this spring. "This meant we had to prov- ide administration and service for an additional 3, 000 custom- ers, " says Mr. Palmer. The Clinton office has exper- ienced a space shortage for some years. When the customers from Exeter were transferred, the ex- isting office became totally in- adequate. Harrison-Martyn Construction of London has the general cont- ract for converting the former depot of Hydro's needs. The estimated cost of renovation is around $250, 000. Work at the site includes comp- lete remodelling of the 212' x 61' building, plus an attached two- storey annex of 20' by 63', as well as fencing and paving of the property. Hydro's architect Ken Candy designed the interior and exterior changes to the office service centre, and grounds comp lex. The property, located a miles south of Clinton on No. 4 High- way, has been fenced with temp- orary access to the roadway built. Eventually the entrance will be widened and paved, and an ext- ension to the highway (an exit lane) added. Some savings will be realized by Ontario Hydro as a result of the deal to buy the Canadian Forces property rather than building a new facility. As was stated last spring by provincial and federal authorit- ies, "both Hydro customers and taxpayers generally should bene- fit from the co-operation display- ed by both authorities in employ- ing existing public facilities to maximum advantage." Area manager Palmer adds that "a new building would have giv- en us 9, 500 square feet, while the supply depot, remodelled to our standards, provides a total of 15, 691 square feet." A third larger than other area offices in Western Region, Clint- on Area will have ample room to hold marketing seminars, staff training, and other meetings. Mr. Palmer notes that the new offices will be completely air conditioned and electrically heated. The service part of the building will draw steam heat from the original facilities which will continue to be supplied from the Base's central heating system. With amalgamation, a number of the staff from Exeter Area were transferred to Clinton. Six linemen were part of the group, including: J, C. Potter; D, J, ., Harrison; Doug Ritchie; M.S.Brintnell; H.C. Stretton; and Bill Bircham. Forrester A . A Simpson and Meter Readers D. G, Mason and John Leppington, and of the office staff, June Bierling, Marg Prout and Sales Rep. Chan Livingstone, were also transfer- red. Temporary arrangements to accommodate the employees were made by leasing offices for the sales and inspection staff, across the street from the pres- ent downtown Clinton location. "Everyone's been real good about having to work in condit- ions which are far from the ideal, " says Mr. Palmer. "All of us are eagerly looking for- ward to moving. Ontario Hydro Sell Former Depot At Exeter Property in Usborne Township at the south end of Exeter form- erly owned by Ontario Hydro has been sold to Wedge the Mover, Jack Doerr and Emil Hendrick subject to approval of Usborne council and the Ontario govern- ment. Last Tuesday night Usborne council was asked by Ontario Hydro to approve the application to divide the land that housed the area hydro office until quart- ers were moved to Clinton.recent• ly. Wedge the Mover will purchase the building with Doerr and Hend• rick acquiring land that now runs behind their properties. A total of some 2.5 acres is involved in the transaction. Nomination date in Usborne has been set for November 30 with an election if necessary to be held on December 7. 0 To prevent tainting of meat, game should be dressed immed- iately after killing. Birds should be drawn and allowed to cool before being placed in carrying pouches. Big game should be '.lung to cool; leave the hide on, and cover exposed parts for trans- port. PAGE THREE Reject Further (continued from page 1) "I thought when this thing started there was to be no extra cost to the taxpayers, " stated Jim Taylor. Director of Education John Cochrane explained that v, the board agreed to include Lie Walton School in the plans, it became " a whole new ballgame. "It is only up $31, 000. over the last estimate we had, " quipped Elliott. FOCUS: One Moment of Time Our camera records a child's First Smile , makes an official report of the bride's radiance . . .
